At this time there is no work scheduled for the South Lake Tahoe area.
Most traffic-interfering work will be restricted from 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25 until 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Opening day with new safety protocol in place at Heavenly Mountain Resort
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/20/2020 - 8:40pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long-awaited opening day for skiing and riding in South Lake Tahoe arrived Friday with season pass holders hitting the slopes at Heavenly Mountain Resort. They joined Northstar in being the only two resorts in Lake Tahoe to open. Squaw Alpine opens on November 25, followed by Kirkwood December 4, Sierra-at-Tahoe has not announced an opening date.
Heavenly reported a foot of natural snow from this week's storm added on top of the snow they've been making since temperatures dropped a few weeks ago.

Of those, ten are in El Dorado Hills, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, three in North County, four in Greater Placerville, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, and 13 in Lake Tahoe region (One fewer "address awaiting confirmation"- the count by region will only add up to 31 if there's a "-1" from the "address awaiting confirmation" category. Right now the County currently awaiting for address confirmation for 2 cases).

Unfortunately, due to weather and grounds concerns and also increasing Covid-19 virus cases in the area, we are canceling our Saturday, November 21 sale and suspending book sale events until the weather warms or we can go back inside. Surge of COVID--19 cases in Alpine County concerns health officer

Alpine County, population about 1,200, includes the towns of Markleeville, Woodfords, Kirkwood and Bear Valley. While not big, Alpine County is experiencing a surge of COVID-19 cases just like the rest of the country.

Of those, 15 are in El Dorado Hills, five in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, four in North County, one in South County, eight in Greater Placerville, eight in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, and 11 in Lake Tahoe region.
One of those new cases, three are under the age of 18, 31 are aged 18-49, 15 are aged 50-64, and three aged 65 or older.
Another 374 people were tested for the coronavirus and 322 negative tests results were received.

There are three positive results awaiting address confirmation.

Community rallies around Reno family who lost home in Pinehaven Fire
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/18/2020 - 1:49pmTuesday's Pinehaven Fire in the Caughlin Ranch area of Reno burned quickly inside a 1,200 acre perimeter, taking with it five structures and damaging another 15. One of the homes lost belonged to the O'Brien family who lost their second home in 19 months.
The family of four, soon to be five, had recently moved back in after losing it the first time to an electrical fire when it was under construction. Mom Marie "Mimi" O'Brien is 37 weeks pregnant, expecting their third son in just three weeks.
Heavy wet snow blankets Lake Tahoe

Ten inches of new snow fell overnight at Homewood Mountain Resort’s summit on Lake Tahoe’s west shore, and two inches at the base (lake level). With a winter storm warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. tonight, the National Weather Service forecast is calling for another 4-8” of snow throughout the day today, and 1-3” tonight.

Of those, 21 are in El Dorado Hills, ten in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, three in North County, two in South County, 14 in Greater Placerville, eight in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, five in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, and 33 in Lake Tahoe region. There are three positive results awaiting address confirmation.
One of those new cases, six are under the age of 18, 50 are aged 18-49, 23 are aged 50-64, and 18 aged 65 or older.
Three fires burning from Doyle to Walker; all fed by high winds

Due to the fast moving nature of the fire, an Evacuation Order has been issued for the Walker, Coleville and Topaz areas, and US 395 is still closed from Bridgeport to the Nevada state line. There is 0 percent containment and 5,000 acres burned according to Inci-web. Liberty Utilities has de-energized the communities of Walker and Coleville up to Topaz at the state line for safety precautions. Liberty is working with all emergency agencies and will safely restore power when possible.

Now that El Dorado County has been moved to the most restrictive Tier 1 Purple starting Tuesday the Tahoe Chamber has scheduled a virtual Town Hall meeting for Friday, November 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Local health experts will discuss what steps need to be made to reduce cases, and what modifications local businesses need to make to stay open safely.

Tahoe Fund calls for projects to fund that help preserve the Lake Tahoe Basin

The funding for projects are designed to restore Lake Tahoe’s famed clarity, create healthier forests, improve transportation, create more sustainable recreation, and inspire greater stewardship in the region.
Safety grant awarded to South Lake Tahoe Police Department
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/17/2020 - 8:48amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) has been awarded a $86,126 grant to combat recognized traffic issues in the city limits including DUI, pedestrian, and motorcycle enforcement.
The safety of everyone traveling is the focus of the grant with efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on South Lake Tahoe roads and to improve traffic analysis, reporting, and data collection.
The one-year grant is for the 2021 federal fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021.

This date has been changed from the county's previously announced noon on Thursday.
Under the Purple Tier, the following sectors are permitted for OUTDOOR ONLY operations These sectors must still maintain mitigation measures (social distancing, face covering, and sanitization):

El Dorado County to vote on changes to VHR ordinance including 1,050 cap of Lake Tahoe permits

The 2:00 p.m. time certain public hearing will contain consideration of a cap of 1,050 total permits issued in the unincorporated portion of the Tahoe Basin.
A waiting list would be created for those wanting a VHR permit after the 1,050 number is met. The waiting list request shall become void upon change in ownership.

High Wind Warning for Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/13/2020 - 12:35pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A High Wind Warning for the Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada area has been extended through 1:00 a.m. Saturday.
Southwest winds are expected to be 25-35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Wind prone areas such as the Sierra foothills and portions of US-395 through the North Valleys and Washoe Valley can see gusts to 75 mph at times. Sierra ridges will gust well over 100 mph.
This warning is for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area.

With no visual component, radio drama depended on dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and the story. Each episode would leave listeners wanting more and the level of anticipation grew as the next airing date grew closer.

El Dorado County election officials have released another tally of ballots counted. The results remain the same as of the November 10 count. Votes Cast: 116,744 of 135,554, or 86.12 percent of eligible voters.
Humane Society of Tahoe Truckee starts pet bereavement group

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two parcels behind Raley's at Stateline are the subject of a public workshop on Thursday, November 12 at 5:00 p.m.. The City of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency are seeking public scoping comments on an applicant-initiated proposal to rezone the two parcels located within the boundary of the City of South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core Area Plan. The proposed amendment submitted by HVR Acquisitions would rezone the two parcels from Recreation to Tourist Center Mixed Use.

Kids food bags can be picked up at St. Theresa Grace Hall, 1041 Lyons Avenue, on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

First storm of the season drops snow around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/08/2020 - 10:47amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Law enforcement has been busy this morning with vehicles stuck in the snow around Lake Tahoe and on the surrounding mountain passes. Meyers is reporting 12" of snow, South Lake Tahoe 9.5", Genoa 7", Alpine Meadows 7" and the Gardnerville Ranchos up to 14".
This is a good day to stay off the roads. If driving, follow all controls, give yourself distance from the car in front of you, and take your time. The storm is moving out of the area but there will be some lingering snow until around 1:30 p.m.

El Dorado County down to 1,000 votes to count - Creegan and Friedrich new South Lake Tahoe councilmembers
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/06/2020 - 5:33pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Elections Department tabulated another 9,614 ballots on Friday, leaving about 1,000 provisional ballots left to count.
At this time, 115,339 ballots have been counted of the possible 135,554 voters (85.09%).
Cristi Creegan and John Friedrich appear to be the next two South Lake Tahoe City councilmembers. They led the race since the first ballots were counted on election day and came out victorious in the field of ten candidates.
First lottery set for new shoreline moorings around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/06/2020 - 4:19pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - The Tahoe Regional Planning Association (TRPA) will be conducting their first lottery for new moorings (buoys, boat lifts, etc.) at Lake Tahoe.
In 2018 the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan was adopted, putting a cap on the total number of moorings and piers allowed in the Tahoe Basin. The plan establishes an annual lottery to allocate new moorings until all allocations are distributed.
Douglas County election results - Over 86 percent of vote counted

So far, ballots from 33,574 of the 38,918 eligible voters have been counted.

They plan to have the count of 9,200 mail-in ballots completed Friday. Then there will be about 1,200 provisional ballots left to count and some ballots that were waiting on signature corrections.
At this time, 105,725 ballots have been counted of the possible 135,554 voters (77.99%).

Red Flag Warning, Lake WInd Advisory and snow forecast for South Lake Tahoe in days ahead
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/04/2020 - 9:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Mark Twain said "the air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious," and this week that air will be colder than it has been. There is a little bit of everything in the five day forecast for South Lake Tahoe.
Starting Thursday, November 5, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin. It will be in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Friday. The forecast gusty winds and critically dry fuels could cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity.

The South Lake Tahoe Library is holding a parking lot/sidewalk book sale on Saturday, November 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tables will be set up with a great selection of books to choose from.
Prices are only $5 a bag and $1 per large, coffee table books. Great selection for fireside reading this winter.
For the health and safety of all, masks will be worn, entry will be monitored to one person (or family group) per table and hand sanitizer will be available. At check-out, correct change is appreciated.
COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/04/2020 - 6:04pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say another 15 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, five are in El Dorado Hills, three in Greater Placerville, -1 in North County, five in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, and three in the Lake Tahoe region.
One of those new case four are aged 18-49, ten are aged 50-64, and one 65 or older.
Another 271 people were tested for the coronavirus and 256 negative tests results were received.
There have been another five assumed recoveries with 168 assumed active cases.

According to election officials, mail in ballots are being counted but nothing will be updated on their website until tabulations occur Thursday afternoon.
There have been no updates since Tuesday night to the Douglas County election results.
Ballot counts for El Dorado County and South Lake Tahoe

For El Dorado County, 149 of 209 precincts have now been tabulated. Depending on the area, Douglas County shows about 72 percent of Tuesday's votes listed.
Lane closure in South Lake Tahoe for pilot project as Caltrans paints bike lane green
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/03/2020 - 6:36pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Caltrans is advising motorists of a lane closure on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe later this week for a pilot project to paint a section of the bike lane green.
The closure is scheduled for the eastbound #2 lane from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday between Dunlap Drive and 3rd Street to apply the paint treatment.

South Shore casinos see big gain in September; Statewide revenues down 22 percent
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/03/2020 - 12:18pmSTATELINE, Nev. - Nevada’s non-restricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $821,132,375 for the month of September 2020, the fourth month of casinos reopening in the state after being closed due to the coronavirus. This amounts to a 22.38 percent decrease compared to September 2019, when licensees reported a gaming win of $1,057,935,421, according to the monthly report released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
The twenty-two percent decrease is almost identical to the loss experienced the prior month for the state.
South Lake Tahoe Police officers finish first month with body cameras
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/03/2020 - 11:35amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Officers with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) are now using a new system of body and vehicle cameras. After City Council approved $470,000 Body Worn Camera (BWC) system on July 28, 42 body cameras, 28 in-car cameras, and the associated cloud based storage were ordered, training was completed and procedures were created.
