Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus commemorates the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy with a concert series that features famed violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn performing Brahms Violin Concerto on the legendary Red Stradivarius Violin and features the TOCCATA Chorus in Brahms mighty German Requiem.
Sept. 12 at 7pm at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe. Tickets are $30 adults, $25 seniors, $5 students (19–23), and free for youth 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance by credit card online or at the door by cash or check.

Make no mistake about it, "John Carter," a movie playing now at the Horizon Stadium Cinemas at Stateline, Lake Tahoe, is a multi-million-budgeted film that takes itself seriously, although audiences may not. It's ripped from the pages of a 1912 newspaper series by Edgar Rice Burroughs of "Tarzan fame" (newspapers ran fun things like that in better times).

Now in its 16th season, the luxury Ski Buses run every Saturday, every Sunday, every Wednesday and one additional weekday per week with pick up locations in San Francisco, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Sunnyvale, Foster City, Pleasanton and San Rafael. The buses are stylish and comfortable with a restroom, multiple TVs for movies, and of course, are run by professional drivers and hosts!

The holiday arrived early for 27 South Lake Tahoe non-profit organizations Thursday, Dec. 8, as $100,000 in charitable contributions was distributed on behalf of LIVESTRONG® and the American Century Championship by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.

“We’re fortunate to have the support from LIVESTRONG, NBC Sports and American Century Investments to assist to the local community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the LTVA in a news release. “In addition to an outstanding event which attracts visitors, our 22-year partnership also helps local groups in need.”

The Brotherhood Motorcycle Club wishes to thank local businesses and community members here in South Lake Tahoe and Stateline for their generous donations for our annual fundraiser, HOGG WILD XVI. Because of our community’s generosity, we were able to provide 50 complete Turkey dinners to families in need this Thanksgiving. The giveaway at Sierra Community Church was a huge success thanks to the following individuals, businesses and community members. Bread & Broth is an all-volunteer program to feed the hungry in the South Lake Tahoe community. A hot, well-balanced meal is provided once a week at no charge to anyone who comes through the doors. The annual “Tree of Remembrance” Interfaith Ceremony hosted by Barton Hospice and Foundation will be Wednesday evening, December 7, from 5:30pm - 6:30pm at the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church in South Lake Tahoe. This event gives attendees the opportunity to reflect on the memories they share and celebrate the lives of those they have lost. Barton Hospice encourages everyone to take this opportunity to honor those they will forever cherish.

Update 7:14PM: Marie Hanson's family has confirmed through Facebook that the remains found Sunday at the site in Washington are Marie's. Services will be held this Saturday, October 15th at Sierra Community Church, Sierra Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe at noon. More info to follow.

UPDATE 3:52PM: Searchers have found skeletal remains and jewelry in an area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest where a South Lake Tahoe woman, Marie Hanson, was last seen during the Rainbow Family gathering. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Monday that searchers would continue to look for other evidence to link the remains and jewelry to Hanson, 54, reported missing by family since July 9. A procession made up of several law enforcement agencies passed through South Lake Tahoe late Wednesday night to deliver the body of fallen soldier U.S. Army Spc. Garrett Fant, who was killed on Sept. 26 in Afghanistan.

CARSON CITY – Residents of this capital city, hit with tragedy earlier in the week with the shooting deaths of four people at a local restaurant, gathered at two somber ceremonies today to mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
About 300 people gathered at Mills Park for the Patriot’s Day – 9-11 Remembrance sponsored by the Capital Baptist Church.
A similar number then gathered at the park to see the unveiling of a 1,600-pound I-beam from the World Trade Center towers donated to the city to form the basis of a 9-11 memorial.
