Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard swap at MontBleu to benefit Heavenly foundation

The Heavenly Ski and Snowboard Foundation will host the 24th Annual Ski and Snowboard Swap at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa on Saturday Nov. 17.
Proceeds will benefit the Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides skiing and snowboarding programs and events for regional youth and local middle school and high school students. The swap runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
American Century delivers $64,500 to Lake Tahoe South nonprofit organizations

“For these past 50 years you could say that I ‘Get Around,’ laughed Mike Love, lead singer and co-owner of the Beach Boys. “With the music I created along with the other Beach Boys it has taken me all over the world. If you ask me it’s pretty cool that thanks to the efforts of a whole lot of good people I get a Roundabout – it’s beautiful.”

With a variety of options from the One-Day Program to the Full-Time Competitive Program, the Foundation has something for all ages and levels of skiers and riders. Registration packets are available online and at the HSSF building.

The magnificent Valhalla Grand Hall, of the vintage 1924 ‘Heller Estate’, listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places hosts the 17th annual Valhalla Holiday Faire Nov.16-18. Featuring a 40-foot high spectacular natural stone fireplace, the Grand Hall will be decorated in a festive Holiday mode. Twenty-five local vendors and artists will be offering a varied assortment of hand-made and other special items for purchase. Father Christmas comes to visit as local school choirs and other musical groups perform through out the two day Holiday Festival.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation, the celebrity golf tournament’s nationally designated charity, in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, NBC Sports and American Century Investments, will provide funds to area non-profit organizations for specific needs to help make a difference in the community.

The Hike for Housing event raises funds for affordable housing locally. Bring the family and enjoy a leisurely stroll (2 miles) around Spooner Lake or hike all the way to Marlette Lake (moderate hike). Pre-register by 9/10/12 for $15/pp or $25/per family. The Tahoe Resource Conservation District will host the the 6th annual Autumn Fest at the Lake Tahoe Demonstration Garden, on the campus of Lake Tahoe Community College from 11am-4pm on Sunday, September 16.
The free festival, run in cooperation with LTCC, is quickly becoming a Tahoe fall tradition packed with activities for all ages, including a silent auction to raise funds for the demonstration garden and conservation landscaping programs in the community.
Tahoe Fund Raises $55,000 for Critical Tahoe Environmental Projects

The money raised by the Fund is for shovel-ready public projects that require additional private support to be completed, and was in addition to the more than $120,000 raised by the dinner for the organization.

The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic, a Vintage Boat Show for Charity is the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc., Northern California/Lake Tahoe Chapter's only ACBS-judged boat show. June 16, 2012 - 9:00am SOUTH LAKE TAHOE- Calif. One hundred CrossFit Athletes in Northern California and Nevada will gather at South Tahoe CrossFit this Saturday, June 16, for a one-day challenge to find the area's fittest man and woman.
In its third year, the Fittest of the Sierras Competition has gained recognition as being the premier CrossFit event in the area. In 2010 the competition hosted athletes from the Reno-Tahoe vicinity, but has now expanded to include competitors from Bishop, Sacramento Central Valley and the Bay Area.

Lake Tahoe bike group presents program to curb preventable disease in children

The Center for Disease Control estimates that 2/3 of the American public are obese and that childhood diabetics, asthma and cardiovascular risk factors lead to adult morbidity, diabetes and significant psychological impact on the obese children. The organization goes on to state that this may be the first generation in the history of man, that children may not outlive the lifespan of their parents.

Six yearling bears nursed at Lake Tahoe are returned back to Mother Nature
Submitted by Editor on Wed, 04/11/2012 - 8:09amRehabilitated through Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care, a total of six orphaned bear cubs have been returned to the wild this spring, ending the California Department of Fish and Game's 2012 yearling bear release program.
The cubs were found in various locations around the state in the summer months of 2011 and were rehabilitated at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care prior to being judged ready to return to the wild. The state program is ongoing and will continue as new cubs come into the facility.
