South Lake Tahoe Police Warn Residents of Jury Duty Scam

Several residents of the South Lake Tahoe community were scammed out of thousands of dollars over the weekend by fraudulent phone callers identifying themselves as law enforcement officers. The callers, who apparently sounded very convincing and knew names of local judges, court clerks and officers, told the unsuspecting citizens that there were warrants for their arrest due to failing to respond to a jury duty summons.

For the 13 day period of May 16 to May 28, 2014, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to 325 calls.

Lake Tahoe, Sierra brace for winter storms to arrive as Christmas travel period begins

A series of strong winter storms will arrive in three waves and when it is over, anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of snow will have dropped above Lake Tahoe, at ski resorts, on highways and throughout much of the Sierra in time for Christmas.

A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through Monday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as a strong series of systems moves into the region.

Periods of light to moderate snow will begin Friday and intensive early Saturday morning with moderate to heavy snow Saturday through Sunday night.

New storm to arrive on Sunday; ski resorts prepare for brisk business

Winter weather continues through today in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow.
