State Route 89 (El Dorado County) from Fallen Leaf Lake Road to Vikingsholm Vista Point is closed in both directions indefinitely due to fire damage.

Emerald Fire burning near South Lake Tahoe consumes 210 acres, is now 80% contained
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/14/2016 - 6:07am8:00AM update 10/15: Highway 89 remains closed in both directions from Fallen Leaf Lake Road to Emerald Bay due to the Emerald Fire which remains 80 percent contained this morning. Acreage burned is 210 acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
There are 3 engines and 12 firefighters still on the scene.
Opening time for Hwy 89 is still unclear. CHP estimates Saturday afternoon and Caltrans estimates the road will be closed until Monday. This is to allow crews to clean up the fallen trees and other debris on, and near, the roadway.

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care releases Golden Eagle over Red Lake
Submitted by paula on Sun, 09/25/2016 - 5:26pmThere were tears, smiles and applause as a Golden Eagle was released Sunday over Red Lake after being rehabilitated by Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care for the past month.
"Loyalton" was found by a Fish and Wildlife warden near the town of Loyalton with no real injuries, but was emaciated. LTWC volunteers call Loyalton a "he" but they don't really know as they don't test the sex on their eagles.

7/13 - 14 calls: 9 EMS, 1 psych interfacility transfer, 3 smoke scare/smell of smoke, 1 canceled en route.
7/14 - 11 calls: 7 EMS, 1 public service call, 2 interfacility transfers, 1 no incident found.
7/15 - 8 calls: 5 EMS, 2 interfacility transfer, 1 smoke detector malfunction.
7/16 - 17 calls: 14 EMS, 1 citizen complaint, 1 interfacility transfer, 1 canceled en route.

Four local boys earn Eagle Scout award

Mark Mulder repeats as American Century Golf Champion
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/24/2016 - 7:05pmOn Sunday, former MLB pitcher Mark Mulder became the first back-to-back winner at the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe since Rick Rhoden accomplished the feat in 2008 and 2009.
Coming from 5 points off the lead on Saturday, Mulder won the annual championship by 5 with the Modified Stableford scoring they use in the tournament. Second place finisher, tennis player Mardy Fish, missed a 12-foot putt for eagle on the 18th hole which would have forced a playoff.
Mulder takes home a trophy and $125,000 for his efforts. Fish, $60,000.

Mardy Fish takes lead at American Century Championship, Wagner in second
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/23/2016 - 4:33pmFormer professional tennis player, and 2004 Olympic silver medalist Mardy Fish took over the lead of the American Century Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe on Saturday. Friday's leader, actor Jack Wagner, is just two points off the lead.
"Birdie is what's the name of the game here and this scoring system," said Fish. He birdied all of the par-5 holes and three others, putting him in a good spot for the final round on Sunday.
Fish is in Tahoe with his wife, who is pregnant with a daughter, and 2 1/2 year old son. "It's been a fun week," Fish added.

Kiva Picnic area, Baldwin and Nevada beaches, Big Meadow trailhead, the McKinney Rubicon Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) area and Sawmill Pond, Eagle Falls, Chimney Beach and Secret Harbor parking areas will open April 30, 2016.
The Tallac Historic Site opens April 30, 2016, and will be staffed beginning Saturday, May 21, 2016 for Memorial Day weekend.
The Sandpit OHV area opens May 10, 2016.
Construction work resumes on Tahoe Basin highways

The $70.1 million water-quality improvement project is building new drainage facilities to collect and treat stormwater runoff, adding curbs and gutters, widening the highway and repaving an eight-mile section of Highway 89 between Tahoma and Tahoe City. Work this season will focus on the remaining four miles of the project between Eagle Rock and Granlibakken Road.

Stand up paddle shop moving into old winery with new wine and coffee bar

He was in the same situation as Rude Brothers, the bagel and coffee shop that shared the same location. With the building sold and all tenants given notice to move, both businesses needed to relocate.

Harveys adds Steve Miller Band and Slightly Stoopid to summer lineup

Slighty Stoopid is coming on Saturday, July 2 as a part of their Return of the Red Eye Summer 2016 Tour. Special supporting guests include SOJA, as well as Zion I, The Grouch and Eligh. The general admission tickets start at $37.50 each.
Fire operations to continue at Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/22/2016 - 9:39pmCalifornia State Parks, the Nevada Division of Forestry and the U.S Forest Service may continue prescribed fire operations started back up today, February 22, 2016.
On the East Shore, operations are scheduled to take place near Logan Shoals Vista Point, Spooner Summit and Sand Harbor. Ten acres on Spooner, 15 acres at Logan Shoals, 150 acres at Camp Galilee and 30 acres at Sand Harbor.
On the South Shore, operations are scheduled near Eagle Point Campground, Spring Creek and Panther Road. Five acres in Angora Creek area, 10 acres on Panther, 30 acres at Emerald Bay.

Completion is expected in fall 2016.
