The search was suspended for two days due to bad weather but boats were back on the lake Monday to search for Pham.

Kayaker reported missing in Lake Tahoe

On June 8 at 9:15 a.m., Pham Dan Vu Thanh (who goes by Dan), called a friend to tell him he was going kayaking and camping in the Lester Beach area. As of 6:15 p.m. that evening there had been no word from Dan.

El Dorado County Sheriff looking for gas-masked bandit
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/07/2017 - 8:28pmA man wearing a hard hart and full respirator walked into two banks in El Dorado County on Tuesday afternoon, making off with money from one.
At about 4:30 p.m. on June 6, the suspect pulled up to the El Dorado Hills branch of Golden One Credit Union driving a white F150. He got out and entered the bank with a gun, wearing the hard hat and gas mask along with sunglasses and a reflective green vest. For an unknown reason he left the building as quickly as he entered.
Crash knocks out power to 2067 customers in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/06/2017 - 3:57pmA driver at the corner of Al Tahoe Blvd and Pioneer Trail in South Lake Tahoe ran into the guy-wire for a power pole, cutting power to over 2,000 Liberty Utilities customers Tuesday afternoon.
The driver was not injured.
The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Police Departments responded to the one vehicle crash after getting the call at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday June 6.
Power was knocked out in South Lake Tahoe at 12:46 p.m. but was restored by 2:45 p.m. A new power pole was placed on Pioneer Trail by Liberty Utilities crews.
Nevada State Fair this weekend, El Dorado County Fair follows

KOLO-TV said Monday morning that snow could hit elevations above 7500 feet on Friday, but in the meantime its warm and clear.
Due to the warm weather, there is a Flood Advisory in place until June 9 for El Dorado County for streams around the South Lake Tahoe region due to snowmelt. Some minor flooding is possible along Heavenly Creek, Trout Creek, Cold Creek, and the Upper Truckee River.

Teen who died near Vikingsholm identified

Chloe Conn fell approximately 50-feet while hiking near the Vikingsholm Trail at about noon on May 31.
No other details about the fall, or who Conn was with in Lake Tahoe have been released by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO).
SMUD planning to expand cloud seeding over the Sierra

Since 1968, SMUD has been involved in the practice of cloud seeding in El Dorado, Amador, and Placer counties to benefit electricity generation in the Upper American River Project (UARP) in Eldorado National Forest.
Teen dies after fall at Lake Tahoe

Just after noon, On May 31, 2017, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office received the call and responded along with CHP, Cal-Star, CA State Parks, Lake Valley Fire and South Tahoe EMS personnel. An off-duty law enforcement officer who was recreating in the area began CPR on the victim prior to the arrival of on-duty first responders.

For many, one of the hardest times was learning about their child, partner, or friend’s diagnosis and not knowing what do next. Some were shamed for not addressing their loved one’s needs sooner and others were told they were too protective or doing too much.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers on Wednesday but just for the day.
The small stream flood advisory due to snowmelt has been extended through Tuesday for Plumas, Mono, Alpine, El Dorado, Placer, Sierra, Nevada, Douglas and Washoe Counties along with Western Carson City.

Best selling book and Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" has sparked conversation about mental health and suicide among youth after the lead character leaves behind 13 tapes after she kills herself. Each tape tells a different person the part they played in her death.
As a response to the movie and how students will react to it, Lake Tahoe Unified School District intervention counselors will be holding a community panel discussion called "300 Reasons Why Not" on Tuesday, May 30 at South Tahoe Middle School's Multi-Purpose Room starting at 6:00 p.m.

El Dorado County gymnastics coach arrested for sexual abuse
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/26/2017 - 2:40pmKeith Willette of Cameron Park was arrested by deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) on May 25, 2017 on suspicion of sexually molesting a minor between 1999 and 2004.
The victim contacted EDSO on May 18 and reported the 54-year-old gymnastics coach had sexually abused her for multiple years
Willette was a gymnastics instructor in El Dorado and Sacramento Counties, as well in Ohio, Minnesota, and Washington. He is also a professional photographer.
Road work pauses for the Memorial Day holiday
Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/25/2017 - 4:40pmRoadwork stops in South Lake Tahoe at 6:00 a.m. Friday, so drivers have an easy go of it until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday as crews break for the Memorial Day holiday. Those working on the City of South Lake Tahoe roads go by the same rules as Caltrans, so both will stop for this period.
Starting Wednesday, Caltrans continues on the three-year Highway 50 project from the Y to Trout Creek. This year's work is from the Y to Tahoe Keys Boulevard. Another project is the completion of the bike trail from El Dorado Beach to Ski Run Blvd.
240 building allocations released by TRPA to Lake Tahoe jurisdictions

El Dorado Beach boat ramp at Lakeview Commons open

2012 was the last year the El Dorado Beach boat ramp was open due to the following years of less than stellar winters and the ensuing drought.
The cost is $17.00 - Day Use Launch, $40.00 - Commercial Day Use Launch and $138.00 - Annual Pass. There are staff members assigned to the launch to collect fees. The ramp is open 8:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. daily with the last launch at 4:30 p.m.
Farmers markets return to South Lake Tahoe

First market to open is the Lake Tahoe Market on Wednesday, May 24 at Kahle Community Park, 236 Kingsbury Grade near the state line from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. They will be open on Wednesdays through the summer.
Community turns out for celebration of SLT Police Department's 50th anniversary

There were rides on both the police and fire boats, a concert, BBQ, interactions with the police K-9s, booths, fingerprinting and an awards ceremony.
Going above and beyond the call of duty was recognized with awards to both staff members and the public.

Two plead guilty to stealing recreation fees

Brian Lisanti and Deseree Tougas entered the pleas in El Dorado Superior Court after a multi-agency investigation uncovered the crimes.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will return to South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, May 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the parking lot of St. Theresa's Catholic Church.
Bags of emergency supplemental groceries will be distributed to qualified recipients. The Mobile Food Pantry makes stops in remote areas of the county from SLT to Placerville. While in town they will also stop by the Family Resource Center and Bread & Broth to drop off food supplies to those agencies.

Four car collision on SR89 sends three to hospital
Submitted by paula on Tue, 05/16/2017 - 6:35pmThree people were injured after a head-on collision on State Route 89 near Cascade Estates on Saturday, May 13.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a Subaru WRX was being driven northbound on SR-89 near Cascade when the car overheated. The driver pulled to the right shoulder and called his father for assistance. The dad arrived in his Volkswagon Touareg and he parked on the right shoulder behind his son’s WRX, out of the traffic lanes with its hazard lights on.
You Matter, I Will Listen

The "You Matter, I Sill Listen" campaign was started last year by Sabrina Owen, manager of El Dorado County Mental Health programs in South Lake Tahoe, to help people be that needed a little support.
Let’s have an honest talk about suicide

Why does each mind matter? Mental health is something we all have. Just as our bodies need attention, our minds also need nourishment and care. Suicide rates are increasing and there is a relationship between mental illness and suicide. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), about 90 percent of people who die by suicide have experienced mental health issues.
Youth in Juvenile Treatment Center earn CPR/AED cards
Submitted by paula on Mon, 05/15/2017 - 12:12pmEleven youth detained at the Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) in South Lake Tahoe recently received two certifications: American Heart Association Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).
This was the first time the course was offered to the youth housed at the facility, and not only did they get these important certifications but they also earned school credits.

Suspected arrested for murder of El Dorado County man
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/10/2017 - 10:40pm5/12 Update: The victim in this homicide has been identified as 43-year-old David Franklin Meade, a resident of El Dorado. Meade and suspect Eriksen were known acquaintances and this was not a random incident.
The investigation lead El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies to a home located on Lindberg Avenue in Placerville where they suspected Eriksen was hiding. The Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was deployed to the residence to take Eriksen into custody. Officers closed surrounding streets after the suspect barricaded himself in the home.
Sunken sailboat now back afloat on Lake Tahoe

Preparations made to remove sunken sailboat from waters of South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 05/09/2017 - 11:24amThe sunken sailboat off the shore of South Lake Tahoe near El Dorado Beach will soon be a thing of the past. All winter long the mast of the sunken boat could be seen from the shore, and as water levels rose, the mast tipped over more.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in North Lake Tahoe, they had sent a crew to the boat during the winter to document and verify the sinking, retrieved the vessel number and made contact with its owner. USCG said they also made the information public so boaters would be forewarned of the hazard.

On Saturday May 6th, 118 volunteers scoured South Tahoe neighborhoods to help clean it up and kick off the summer with a litter-free town. The groups covered fifteen different locations and gathered 1,484 pounds of trash and debris from our environment.
