Review: Miranda Lambert can add one more to her long list of fans
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/20/2019 - 12:17pmSTATELINE, Nev. - She came out swinging and never stopped with hit after hit and rolled out her newest single in 15 months to a very appreciative and excited crowd.
I admit I never knew much about Miranda Lambert except to see her on award shows and for the fact she was once married to Blake Shelton. I enjoy country music but have never been a dedicated fan, but after Thursday night's show at the Harveys Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena, I am going to start paying much more attention, especially to Miranda.
She started the show off with her 2009 hit That's the Way the World Goes 'Round -

Fire is no stranger to Lake Tahoe.
Opinion: Not my family's job to monitor vacation home rentals
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/20/2019 - 6:46amTonight we had eight cars in the VHR across the street. The house is rated for four cars with a maximum of ten people. We reported it this time. We usually do not report violations because it makes us anxious… no one wants to be the “BAD” guy. The call was simple enough and the response was surprisingly quick. Roughly 20 minutes after our call the officer arrived to view the cars parked in the driveway, in the street, in the front yard and along the side of the house.

What could addition of Accessory Dwelling Units mean for South Lake Tahoe?
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 8:01pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Perhaps you know of them as mother-in-law units, tiny houses in the backyard or an extra apartment above a garage for renters. The term Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) has become a popular one in describing these types of housing as the affordable housing conversation turns towards solutions.
From the California Department of Housing and Community Development:
What are the benefits of ADUs?
- ADUs are an affordable type of home to construct in California because they do not require paying for land, major new infrastructure, structured parking, or elevators.

Road Beat: Mitsubishi Outlander GT, A high value alternative
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/14/2019 - 10:51pmWhen tested exactly three years ago, I called the Mitsubishi Outlander a high value, bang for the buck CUV. Now with compact, small-midsize CUVs all costing in the mid $30K range and more, the Mitsubishi stands out even more as my extremely loaded three rows of seats Outlander GT stickered for $36K all in including the boat from Japan. While the price is up a minuscule three percent, additional content and improvements have increased the value quotient. And that quotient grows as inflation would have boosted the price by at least six percent.

Column: As Housing Shortages Increase, Local Employers Take Action
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/26/2019 - 7:25amWhile many local groups have joined forces to develop housing for residents, the reality is that it takes time to build new housing. And time is what many of our local employers don't have right now as we head into summer. Faced with an immediate need to house their employees, employers have created their own solutions.
Column: Wildfires happen. Is your community prepared?
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/25/2019 - 6:33amWelcome to summer! The solstice officially arrived Friday at 8:54 a.m., welcoming in the longest day of the year. As the snowpack melts away, and the lake fills above rim, we enter the warm and dry months that we relish after winter. As Lake Tahoe’s landscape begins to dry out, wildfire danger will grow.
Our respite from the seasonal dangers of wildfire here in the basin is coming to an end. With temperatures climbing, relative humidity lowering, and afternoon winds blowing across the lake, the basin will become susceptible to wildfire.

The Road Beat: 2019 Mazda 3 - Cementing its number one compact spot
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/04/2019 - 10:17pmMazda has an “all new” Mazda 3. It has some resemblance to the prior generation Mazda 3 but it is a new fourth generation and it had a new designer, Yasutake Tsuchida. Tsuchida continued with the “Kodo” design theme using a very similar, aggressive front end while smoothing out the body ridges and incorporating a sleeker, less complicated rear end. It uses a similar window line except for the “Hofmeister kink” now present in the termination of the rear side windows. It is a better-looking car (then its prior generation) and retains the title of the best-looking compact car.
