Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/24/2018 - 1:30amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In less than one week thousands of electronic dance music and festival fans will flock to South Lake Tahoe for th eighth annual SnowGlobe Music Festival which runs December 29-31.
Before anything started to be assembled at the Community Playfields on Al Tahoe Blvd., which are home to SnowGlobe, three different types of mats went onto the field surface to protect it from damage, almost 240,000 square feet total. In 2017 the new fields suffered major damange before local youth ever got a chance to play on them, something SnowGlobe organizers repaired.

Tahoe Douglas Fire boat named one of '10 Significant Boats of 2018'
Submitted by paula on Sun, 12/23/2018 - 1:18amThe boat Lisa "Angel of Tahoe" Maloff and Bob and Nackey Scagliotti helped bring to the Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District (TDFPD) in 2017 was named one of WorkBoat magazine’s “10 Significant Boats of 2018” an international in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The Lake Assault Boats fire and rescue craft on duty with TDFPD, named Marine 24, was christened in 2017. At a cost of $500,000 it is designed to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including structural and wildland fires, and on-the-water rescue operations.
El Dorado County grandmother's death suspicious; Deputies searching for her car
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/22/2018 - 10:08pmA 60-year-old grandmother of six from El Dorado, California was found dead in her home on December 18 and deputies are investigating her death as suspicious.
Deputies from the El Dorado County Sheriff's office say they responded to the home Tuesday at 8:00 p.m. where they found Helen McKinney dead and her car missing.
The victim’s son found her body.
An investigation was conducted and it was found that McKinney’s vehicle was missing from her home. Her cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy but is suspicious due to the fact that the vehicle is missing.

DEA arrests two South Lake Tahoe residents on drug charges

On December 18, 2018, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) with assistance from the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Task Force (TRIDENT), South Lake Tahoe Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office served a federal search warrant at a home on the 2300 block of Tahoe Vista Drive.

G-Eazy, Kaskade, Rae Sremmurd, Tyga, Goldlink, Ashe and Franklyn Watts have been added to this year's line-up. Tickets were not sold out prior to the announcement but they are now expected to go quickly. There are a limited number of three-day and single day tickets still available.

Stephen was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 18, 1963. He graduated from Rutgers University in 1985 and completed his Medical Degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1990. Stephen practiced Orthopedic Surgery for 25 years. On May 18, 1991, he married Barbara Lee Storck. They raised two children Brandon and Allison.
Community gives families displaced from South Lake Tahoe apartments some holiday cheer but still in need of permanent housing
Submitted by paula on Tue, 12/18/2018 - 12:08pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On December 12 six South Lake Tahoe families learned the apartment building they called home was no longer habitable and they had to vacate by December 17.
As the deadline loomed panic set in for the residents of 3546 Spruce Avenue, they tried to find new housing in a city where available rentals are almost non-existent, especially for those of a lower income level without financial means to pay higher rent and deposits.
Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club helping out Sierra House families
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/17/2018 - 11:03amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One hundred percent of the operations of Sierra House Elementary have now moved over to the Al Tahoe school site (where the Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club is also housed) until possibly mid-February. Due to the size a split schedule is in place to accommodate the students, with some students only attending in the morning, others only in the afternoon.
The Boys and Girls Club (Club) is assisting parents with that split schedule and in partnership with Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be offering free programs and activities during the school day.

Sierra House students could have split schedule at Al Tahoe until mid-February

At first it was believed that work could possibly be completed by the time students return to school after the holiday break but now that the hired restoration specialists are getting into the walls and ceiling the scope of work has increased.
Belfor cannot commit to the scope of work until the crews get into their job, so the plan is to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. As of today, the
Cinder the Bear found dead in Washington
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/13/2018 - 8:40pmWhen Cinder the Bear arrived in South Lake Tahoe on August 4, 2014 the prognosis wasn't a good one. The 18-month old black bear had been severely burned in the Carlton Complex Fire in Washington and weighed in at just 39 pounds, about half of what a cub her age should be.
The story of her determination and recovery won the hearts of many around the globe and now she is dead.
Some Sierra House students will move to Al Tahoe this week; rest head over Dec. 17

Cannabis ordinance may be in place in South Lake Tahoe by March 2019

Two versions of an ordinance were presented but neither passed muster in the eyes of the council and they hope to have one that addresses their issues come before them at their January 15, 2019 meeting.

They are for hauling the family with comfortable seven to eight passenger seating (there isn’t a bad seat in this house) while still having massive cargo capacity. Or they are for going to your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and God help your credit card. I was actually able to put 12-foot-long baseboard inside this massive shipping container.

December 15, 2018 - 10:00am Home Ranch for the Holidays, a celebration of the season that includes a vintage toy exhibit, music and treats, returns to Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday-Sunday, December 15-16 from 10:00am to 4:00pm.
The exhibit includes toys from the 1870s through the 1890s that were played with by Fred Dangberg and his siblings, as well as numerous toys enjoyed by Fred’s five children and a grandson from 1901 through the 1940s.

The SnowGlobe organization has committed to protecting the fields and is working to engineer the sound to reduce the impact to our local residents. They have agreed to reduced hours the first two nights in addition to other actions. These actions should be applauded as they were under no obligation to change anything as per their contract. Again we (NoGlobe) thank SnowGlobe for working with us. The SnowGlobe organization has acted as a responsible business partner.
Tahoe Warm Room finds new location - opens December 12
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 10:01pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless has announced the opening of their Warm Room for the 2018-19 season on Wednesday, December 12. This year they will be located inside the old Emerald Bay Dentistry office at 1201 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.
The Warm Room will operate nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. through April 2019.
For the fourth year, the Warm Room will provide overnight refuge from the elements in a safe and warm environment for approximately twenty-five adult men and women who are experiencing homelessness during winter months.
South Lake Tahoe pair off to prison after abusing their two young children
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 2:56pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Danielle McGlothin and Lance Logan are heading to state prison after being sentenced for abusing their two young children, ages one and three.
On October 19, 2017, staff at the 3 Peaks Resort in South Lake Tahoe discovered two small children without clothes on, roaming the parking lot unattended. Staff attempted to return the boys to their parents after the kids were almost hit by a car. The parents, McGlothin and Logan, appeared to the staff to be under the influence of drugs and police were called.
Both Bijou and Magnet schools set to reopen after gas and water issues

Vail Resorts gives $1.9M to 93 Tahoe-Truckee area nonprofits

Across the company, Vail Resorts will give $11.4 million in support to more than 250 community non-profits over the upcoming year.
Each year Vail gives away money and product to groups serving the communities they have resorts located. For Kirkwood, Heavenly and Northstar, support was given to support the health and resilience of the Truckee and South Lake Tahoe communities.

The final report was released at 2:36 p.m.
The most watched issued for South Lake Tahoe voters was Measure T, the citizen generated measure to ban vacation home rentals from residential neighborhoods starting in 2021.
50th annual Optimist Club Tree Lot in South Lake Tahoe

Stop by the corner of Lakeview Avenu and Lake Tahoe Boulevard for a dose of holiday spirit seven-days-a-week. There is free popcorn and hot cocoa for the kids as you start off on that journey to find the perect tree. The annual tree lot is open from 12:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. Monday - Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekends.
The Optmists have a selection of Grand Firs, Noble Firs, Silver Tips and Douglas Fir trees.

Had it not been for the quick response by Lake Valley Fire Protection District the discussion would be about replacing the 44-year-old South Lake Tahoe school rather than the processes involved to get it cleaned up and opened in just two days.
Douglas County seeking citizens for Vacation Home Rental Task Force

At their November 15 meeting, Douglas County Board of County Commissioners asked staff to organize the task force for the purpose of offering recommendations to the County Manager on the permitting, management and/or limitation of vacation home rentals. This group will be advisory only.

Man who died after leaving SnowGlobe to be honored during Rose Parade
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/29/2018 - 7:54pmHunter Weiss was 20-years-old when he attended the annual SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe and was heading home to Reno on New Year's Day 2018. He and a friend pulled their vehicle over to sleep and left a propane heater on in the front of the truck to stay warm. Hunter died of carbon monoxide poisoning but his friend survived due to an open window on his side of the vehicle.
Weiss had been an organ donor and his corneas gave the gift of sight to two people, one whom had never seen before.

Ex-Humane Society director finishes jail term just one month after guilty plea
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/26/2018 - 7:47pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though she was sentenced to six months in jail after taking a plea deal for her embezzlement of almost $60,000, Niki Congero, the former executive director of the Lake Tahoe Humane Society, has been released and is now back in Tennessee a free woman.
She was in the El Dorado County Jail from August 1 to October 28, a total of 89 days. Her jail term started the day of her arrest in Tennessee.

The fifth annual Zawadisha Holiday Bazaar will be held at The Landing on December 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on December 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Local entrepreneurs, artisans and the community are being connected to support the concept of shopping locally while making change globally. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Zawadisha, a social enterprise founded in Lake Tahoe by Jen Gurecki and Julie Lowe. Zawadisha will invest the funds from the event into their leadership and business training program for rural Kenyan women.

Tahoe Sports Ltd will be presenting the South Lake Tahoe premier of Warren Miller’s new film, “Face of Winter” at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe on Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1. This latest movie of Miller's explores the fact that there are so many “faces of winter,” from your buddies you ski with, to the lifties, ski patrol, ski school, the little groms ripping around the mountain and the unknown skiers sharing the lift line with you.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/22/2018 - 2:42pmKarl James Hildinger was born in Danville, California on May 30, 1931. Jim passed away at home, surrounded by family, in South Lake Tahoe on November 11, 2018.
Three weeks after he was born, he was carried into Angora Lakes Resort in a Washoe papoose basket. He was a staunch environmentalist and spent his lifetime protecting and preserving Angora and the greater Lake Tahoe Basin. The Angora Lakes Resort remains in the family.

The side dishes are being prepared, pies are baked and many are waiting for friends or family to arrive. The football game is on, the Macy's parade is over and maybe you have a chance to sit down and get your feet up.
Today is Thanksgiving, the annual day of giving thanks, celebrating a holiday and enjoying friends and family. The gathered group differs from home to home.

“If you are visiting your loved one and become concerned about their wellbeing, particularly if you suspect they may be a victim of neglect, self-neglect or abuse, please reach out for assistance,” said Laura Walny, Manager with the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency.
