WordWave returns to South Lake Tahoe: Workshops, plays and Steampunk all rolled into one weekend

Word Wave, a festival for readers, writers, and lovers of story has returned to South Lake Tahoe. The three day long Word Wave will feature readings, workshops, panels, music, and plays from October 21-23, 2016 at Tallac Historic Site.
Every culture has used, and continues to use, story to entertain, educate, preserve history and tradition, and connect and WordWave will celebrate those words and the story in all its forms for the second year on the South Shore.
Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

Sierra at Tahoe created "Keep Sierra Clean Day" ten years ago to help protect the environment before the winter season sets in.
Its a year round job, but this fall event gets friends and neighbors, locals and visitors together on the mountain to give it a good clean up.
Volunteers will ide the chairlift, clean the mountain and collect prizes, and sneak in a great peek at the view while at it!
There will be a free lunch and live music by Mic Smith.

Since coming to Lake Tahoe, she has jumped into the community with great energy and commitment. For example, she is an adjunct faculty member of Lake Tahoe Community College and co-teacher at Tahoe Parents Nursery School with Aileen Yure and Jennifer David. She served as member of the Sierra House Elementary PTA Board as a co-grant coordinator, classroom volunteer, and also volunteers with the Coalition for the Homeless and Warm Room Advisory Council.

All collected items will be distributed by Christmas Cheer to local children in need during the Christmas holiday.

A day full of German food, live music and Fall fun is being planned by the American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe as they hold an Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 1 from noon-5:00 p.m. at the Legion Hall in South Lake Tahoe.
Residents and visitors are invited to join members of the American Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary for the German celebration which will include the Cash Only Band. At the same time, Legion members will be holding a food and toy drive for Christmas Cheer.

SnowGlobe 2016 lineup announced: Chainsmokers and Flume head up list

The Chainsmokers, whose hit "Closer" has been the top song on iTunes for the fast few weeks, will be one of the headliners, along with Australia's Flume and Seattle's Odesza. Major Lazer is currently near the top of the charts with Justin Beiber's "Coldwater."
The first two rounds of discounted tickets to the annual three-day SnowGlobe music festival in South Lake Tahoe are already sold out, but "Advanced Sale" tickets are available through Thursday.

Tim Anderson, a South Lake Tahoe flooring contractor, was run over by a car near his home on August 24. He was air-lifted to a trauma center where he remains in critical condition with a tracheotomy, internal injuries, a broken pelvis, broken ribs, scapulas, and other serious injuries. He is breathing on a ventilator and cannot yet talk.
Tim's three sons, Christian, Corey (& fiancé April) and Cameron, and his best friends, Andy, Jody and Joe have been by his side, as well as the Reilly family, Mickey, Mark, and his grandchildren.
SnowGlobe 2016 announces lineup on Thursday; Discounted tickets on sale

SnowGlobe promoters will release the line-up to the December 29-31, 2016 outdoor concert on Thursday, September 15 and will continue to sell the early-bird tickets until they too sell out.
Advanced sale tickets are $179 for a 3-day pass, $219 for a 3-day pass with shuttle and $349 for a 3-day VIP pass.

Shallyn Diane Farris - August 22, 1992 - July 17, 2016

She was a bright angel on this earth, full of life, love and kindness for all who knew her. Many who have visited South Lake Tahoe's Magic Carpet Golf over the years may have met Shallyn while she was working in the family business.
The native Sonoma county resident died on July 17, 2016. Shallyn loved horses, music, soccer, her family and friends. She was a graduate of El Molino High School and studied cosmetology at Lytles Beauty School.

This free concert is presented by On Course Events and the City of South Lake Tahoe.
Funk band Swamp Zen gets the party started from 4:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. and they'll be followed by Gypsy Rock band Diego's Umbrella who take the stage from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

A Hidden Gem in Tahoe

Tallac is located next to Camp Richardson and Fallen Leaf Lake Campground – an area most folks are familiar with – and yet locals constantly wander onto the site from the beach and announce they had no idea this place was here.

LTCC hires new Dean of Workforce Development and Instruction

Deeds will be over the Fire Academy, Culinary Arts, Commercial Music, Allied Health, the new Adult Education program, and other vocationally-focused departments on campus. He will also oversee workforce development and select instructional programs at LTCC.
The LTCC Board of Trustees gave approval for the hiring at their meeting on Tuesday night.

Massive water slide to send people down Ski Run Blvd

Ski Run Blvd and Pioneer Trail will be transformed into a large water party pn August 27 when a 1000-ft water slide lets participants slipe and slide their way down the streets in South Lake Tahoe.
The Tahoe Regional Young Professional group is bringing "Slide the City" to town not only as a fundraiser, but as a fun and local event that will also feature live music, vendors and food through three-city blocks. In order for TRYP to get the funds, those ordering tickets must use the promo code "TRYPSLIDE."

Many people are surprised to learn that Jack Dempsey once called Nevada home. Dempsey left footprints all over the Silver State that affected the entire sporting arena.
He helped usher in the era known as “The Golden Age of Sport” along with baseball’s Babe Ruth, football’s Red Grange, golf’s Bobby Jones and tennis’ Bill Tilden.

SnowGlobe extended until 2018; Promoter wants to bring three more events to town annually

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, promoter Chad Donnelly went before the elected officials, asking them for a three year extension of the annual festival until 2019 (though they would ultimately like a deal until 2027), and more money from the City to help with the costs of garbage pick-up and transportation for the three-day event which runs from December 29-31 each year.
What the City gave him was not quite what he was asking for as he got more cash, but less time.
South Tahoe High grad celebrates release of new music video

The 30-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman, a 2003 graduate of South Tahoe High, is celebrating the video's release and shared the news from her berth on a Carnival Cruise Line ship. She also talked about how she got started on her career in a town she's called home since 1989.

"Silent" movies and concert on the beach for Keep Tahoe Blue fundraiser

The beach at Lakeland Village will be the scene of the next FNCTN fundraiser to benefit Keep Tahoe Blue on Wednesday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m., and people nearby won't hear a thing!
There will be two movie screenings and a concert on the beach, all through special silent disco headphones. Guests receive a pair of Bluetooth headphones for the evening that have three separate channels. Each channel will be broadcasting movies and music at the same time, you choose your entertainment.

Countdown to American Century Championship:"The fans are great!"

The field of 86 celebrities from sports, television, music, stage, screen, politics, Nascar, and the US Marine Corps are all headed to the South Shore July 19-24 to play.
"The golfers anticipate getting the invitation letter to play," said Former NFL Head Coach and ESPN Analyst Herm Edwards. "We get excited at that moment."
