Location

Who were the first residents of the Lake Tahoe basin? How do you convey the word "SOS" in Morse Code? What is the 1930's cabin tour? If you don't know the answers to these questions, ask a third grader.

In the month of October, 220 students from third grade classes in Lake Tahoe Unified School District took field trips to the Lake Tahoe History Museum where they spent a morning with hands on displays, singing and docent led museum tours.

The school tours started in 2010 when Jackie Dumin, the Tallac Site Director for the U.S. Forest Service, developed the program.

The winners for the 8th annual Blue Ribbon Awards were announced Thursday night to a sold out dinner and ceremony at Montbleu Resort Casino and Spa. 300 community members attended to celebrate the winners of seven awards that honor exceptional South Shore businesses for their excellence in service, entrepreneurship, tourism and experience.

Join the music departments of Lake Tahoe Unified School District as they perform "A Veterans Day Tribute" on Tuesday, November 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the South Tahoe Middle School's multi-purpose room.

Veterans of all wars and peace time are encouraged to join the students as they play patriotic music, including service songs, abd the National Anthem. There will be special recognition for WWII, Vietnam and Korean War vets.

The concert is free.

Join us for the final day of the 20th Annual Valhalla Holiday Faire, in the Grand Hall,from 10 AM to 4 PM. Enjoy the festively decorated rustic estate at this free event, which will feature a Christmas tree, holiday music, 30 local vendors and artisans, as well as performances by the South Lake Tahoe Children’s Choral Society with a special appearance by Santa Claus! There is something for everyone. Come join in the fun.

For three days, historic Valhalla comes alive for the Holiday Season. Celebrate at the 20th Annual Valhalla Holiday Faire, in the Grand Hall,from 5:30 to 8:30 PM. After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson--otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown--have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting and the Friends of the Library are excited to share this musical afternoon with our SLT community.

Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of loud music and firearms being discharged in the 1200 block of Slate Road in Minden, Nev. on October 23, 2015.

Once on the scene, they found Alfredo Ferreira, 54, at the home with several weapons. During the deputys' investigation they found that Ferreira is a sex offender who had failed to register. An arrest and search warrant were obtained and they found several weapons in his home.

Ferreira was arrested without incident and the weapons were seize. Ferreira has since posted bail.

In just three years, SnowGlobe has become one of the major attractions in South Lake Tahoe, passing American Century Celebrity Golf as the number two event on the South Shore.

The much anticipated list of performers was announced on Wednesday, prompting thousands of tweets, facebook and instagram posts.

Galantis, E-40, Jack-Ü, Dillon Francis, Chet Faker, Cashy Cat, Lil' Dicky, Autograf, Eric Prydz, NGHTMRE, Hotel Garuda, What So Not, Ghostland Observatory, Duke Dumont are just a few of the acts booked for SnowGlobe 2015.

Thanks to the support of 38 local businesses/organizations, dozens of local vendors and hundreds of weekly attendees, On Course Events produced over 20 community events this summer, including 3 brand new event series’.

“None of these events would be possible without the support we have from our local
community,” states Leslie Schultz of On Course Events. “The best part is we’re able to recycle that support right back into the community and the local non-profit organizations that support it. That’s true Tahoe support!”

The sixth annual “South Lake Tahoe Food and Wine Festival” arrives at Harrah's and Harveys Lake Tahoe, Oct. 16 - 18, for an autumn weekend of great food, fine wine and high spirits.

Award-winning Chef Mark Tarbell is the featured celebrity chef this year, hosting several key events.

The community is invited to the American Legion on Sunday to enjoy a feast to celebrate Oktoberfest from 4 p.m to 8 p.m.

American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe and the Ladies Auxiliary will have a traditional German dinner on October 4, 2015. For just $10, people can enjoy dinner, music by the Cash Only Band as well as a raffle.

We started the story of Bridey Heidel as she began a campaign to make it back stage to meet her lifelong idols, Duran Duran, at their September 25 concert in Reno. The dynamic South Tahoe High English teacher, and advisor to the school's ALLY Club, has had a dream to meet Simon Le Bon, the lead singer of the popular pop group who's top charting tunes include Come Undone, Hungry Life a Wolf and A View to a Kill.

The Animal Coalition of Tahoe’s 11th annual Mutt Strut Poker Run, a fun, family event where you can get a little exercise with your pooch, play poker, and maybe win some prizes is just a few days away!

The Mutt Strut will begin at the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue with registration from 11:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday September 27.

Two local non-profits, Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) and Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber), are teaming up for the "Mixed Up Mixer" on Wednesday, October 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Set at the new Conference Center at Beach Retreat and Lodge at Tahoe, the Mixed Up Mixer allows both TRYP and Tahoe Chamber memberships to mingle with one another while learning how these organizations are benefiting the South Shore community.

What once took hours of City of South Lake Tahoe staff time as well as weeks for applicants to get answers may soon be a one hour process.

Since it was organized in 2014, the City Attorney has been working with departments to update each section of the City Code. For portions that pertains to zoning, land use, development standards and building standards, City staff looked at ways to streamline the process and remove permit process portions of the code where possible.
