Even with government and public pleas to keep Sacramento NBC affiliate KCRA on the South Lake Tahoe Charter Spectrum lineup, the channel was cut on June 8. The fight to get the California station back has not stopped and El Dorado County is now surveying residents.

After a routine inspection of the Washoe Lake Dam Monday it was determined that the dam was in danger of potentially breaching. Experts arrived on site and conducted an analysis mitigation for the last several hours. Due to this examination, the Washoe Lake Dam threat has been downgraded from imminent threat to a watch.

If the dam breached, the Steamboat Creek and Steamboat Ditch areas would be flooded. Due to this threat, residents were asked in these and surrounding areas, to be prepared to evacuate when notified.

A new website launched by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), Tahoe Transportation District (TTD), and visitor organizations provides a hub of easy-to-access information about a wide range of travel options in the Tahoe Basin.

The goal of www.LinkingTahoe.com is to increase public awareness of travel options for people to get to, from, and around the Tahoe Basin and encourage more people to walk, bike, use transit, take water shuttles, and choose off-peak times to drive to better manage congestion on the region’s roads.

Strong, gusty winds return to Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada, with a Lake Wind Advisory in effect most of the day Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Dry grass and gusty winds will create dangerous conditions for wildfire should a spark set them off....use care when outdoors as the fuels are ready.

Those heading out on Lake Tahoe and other area lakes need to be aware of hazardous boating conditions starting Friday, then going through Saturday. Remember to wear your personal flotation device at all times.

There have been several earthquakes north of Lake Tahoe today, starting with one that measured 3.1 at 12:32 a.m. Wednesday.

According to the Nevada State Seismology Lab at the University of Nevada Reno, there have been 12 more tremblers as of 1:20 p.m. All are between five miles north of Mt. Rose and Interstate 80.

The Sierra Nevada and Western Nevada experience several earthquakes annually, and in recent years those numbers have been over 22,000 each year, with most of them under 1.0. So far in 2018 there have been over 6,000 measurable events.

On May 28, 2018, 18-year-old Rocky Beaty of South Lake Tahoe suffered a trampoline accident that broke his neck and was transported by medical helicopter to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Rocky, a student at Lake Tahoe Community College, remains hospitalized in Renown after breaking his C-6 and C-7. A bank account has been set up to cover medical expenses at El Dorado Savings due to mounting costs and unknown future care expenses but they do know it will be extensive.

Chautauquan Tom Lorentzen will portray American author John Steinbeck at 6:30 pm, followed by stargazing with the Astronomical Society of Nevada at 9:00 pm, on Wednesday, June 13 at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.

John Steinbeck was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1962. Among his classic works are The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden and Of Mice and Men. The year 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of his death. Although most recognized for his fiction, Steinbeck also wrote non-fiction.

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of April was up 7.5 percent in 2018, bringing in a "win" of $953,698,753 to casinos in the state according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

On the South Shore, the $14,938,015 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was up 12.61 percent from 2017. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $9,214,172, up 7.08 percent.

The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes

Mother Nature must not want South Lake Tahoe to enjoy summer, quite yet. After a day of and night of thunder, lightning and rain, more is in the forecast.

There is a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 5:00 a.m. Saturday morning, calling for snow above 8000 feet. 1-3" of snow with isolated areas seeing up to 6". Areas affected are Mt Rose, Carson, Ebbetts, Sonora and Tioga passes and high elevation hiking trails around the Lake Tahoe area, Alpine County and Mono County.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council will take a look at vacation home rental (VHR) fines at their meeting on Tuesday, May 15. In a story that has had national attention, the $1,000 fines for violations of parking, noise and other ordinances for each the renter and homeowner have become the spotlight.

Council will look at the fines and rules for parking and bear boxes, and the fact that both renter and homeowners are fined for each instance.

A crash on May 5 on the Mt. Rose Highway between a 2016 BMW X1 SUV and a 2017 Nissan Sentra sedan claimed the lives of an 78-year-old woman and an 83-year-old man, both of Reno, Nev.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to a serious injury crash involving the two vehicles on State Route 431 (Mount Rose Highway) at the intersection of Callahan Road in Reno.

Preliminary investigation shows that the BMW was traveling westbound on the Mt. Rose Highway, east of Callahan Road. The Sentra was traveling eastbound, west of Callahan Road.

Open enrollment for the Nevada Prepaid Tuition program will end on Monday, April 30, 2018 and the Nevada State Treasurer's Office wants to remind parents to enroll in the program before the state's college rates are increased.

This is a chance for parents to lock in current tuition rates.

Twenty-seven Nevada judges have received awards for educational achievements earned through judicial education. The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) provides judges continuing education programs to ensure a competent and professional judiciary.

“Nevada citizens deserve to feel confident their judges hand down the best decisions,” said Chief Justice Michael L. Douglas. “These awards demonstrate a commitment by Nevada judges to obtain knowledge about changes in the law and judicial practices.”

We, as property managers and owners, have been requesting support from the Chamber of Commerce, LTVA, and the Lodging Association in helping us fight the selfish attitudes of some locals regarding their entitlement to Lake Tahoe without visitors to their neighborhoods.

American professional road cyclist Peter Stetina was in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday, inviting local cyclists to join him on a training run from Sprouts to Kirkwood, and back.

Daniel Knight of Dayton, Nev., the assistant manager of Save Mart in Carson City came to town to join Stetina. Chadwick Clark of South Lake Tahoe, the chef at Camp Galilee in Glenbrook, also joined in. Both ride their bikes to work when weather allows.

Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada (GSSN) have announced this year’s recipients of both their volunteer awards and those for the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA), and several are from South Lake Tahoe, Zephyr Cove, Truckee and the Carson Valley.

They will be honored during Volunteer Recognition & Award Ceremony on Saturday, April 21 at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino in Reno. The ceremony is GSSN's way of thanking and celebrating their amazing volunteers and the priceless love they give girls every day through unwavering dedication to their success.

South Lake Tahoe was the first city in California to carry the dockless bicycle sharing system, LimeBike, and now the community may soon be seeing the next generation, Lime-S.

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Sam Dreiman, Manager of Strategic Development for LimeBike, and Jesse Patterson, Deputy Director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, made a presentation to Council on numbers from 2017 and plans for 2018.
