Santa arrives at community tree lighting at Edgewood
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/25/2018 - 8:10pmThe inaugural Tree Lighting Celebration at Edgewood Tahoe took place on Saturday night with a packed house welcoming in the season with jolly ole' Santa Claus.
As Santa descended the grand stairs in the Lodge at Edgewood with Mrs. Santa, members of the South Tahoe Choral Association sang Christmas songs to the gathered crowd.
"For Edgewood it's about creating memories," the resort's GM Corinna Osborne said as she flipped the switch to light the tree.

The fifth annual Zawadisha Holiday Bazaar will be held at The Landing on December 1 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on December 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Local entrepreneurs, artisans and the community are being connected to support the concept of shopping locally while making change globally. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to Zawadisha, a social enterprise founded in Lake Tahoe by Jen Gurecki and Julie Lowe. Zawadisha will invest the funds from the event into their leadership and business training program for rural Kenyan women.

Today is Thanksgiving, the annual day of giving thanks, celebrating a holiday and enjoying friends and family. The gathered group differs from home to home.
Ritz-Carlton at Northstar sold
Submitted by paula on Thu, 11/15/2018 - 7:56pmLAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 170-room Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe and an adjacent 3.4 acre parcel are being purchased by Braemar Hotels & Resorts, Inc for $120 million. The plot of vacant land will be used for a luxury residential townhome development.
The acquisition is expected to close between December 12, 2018 and January 15, 2019.
Soroptimist's Best of 2018 Restaurant, Brewery and Winery announced

Guests at the event had the opportunity to taste wines from over 30 different wineries, six breweries and 20 restaurants. Each guest voted for their favorite winery, restaurant and brewery.

Patrons at our library logged a total of 5,236 books and earned a total of 817 prizes! We would like to thank the businesses and organizations that donated prizes and funds to our program.
Prizes that children could choose from included gift certificates from Applebee’s Restaurant, Blue Dog Gourmet Pizza, Heavenly Village Cinema, McDonalds, and Modern Makers. Thank you to all of these businesses for their generous donations!
Nevada Guard to commemorate IHOP victims in 5k run/walk

A recent feature article by the Association of California Water Agencies pointed out that STPUD is one of only a handful of utility districts in the entire world that can claim 100% reuse of wastewater and bio solids. Here’s how. We use centrifuges instead of the usual pollution causing burners. That allows us to make fertilizer for ranch land.

Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Department of Public Safety will be volunteering their time to raise money for Special Olympics of Nevada and California on Thursday June 14, 2018. The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, located in South Lake Tahoe, is where all of the fun will be taking place during the lunch and dinner hours. Patrons will enjoy the NHP and other public safety employees serving as volunteer waiters and waitresses as they assist the restaurant staff that day while they work for “special tips.”

The Tahoe Pourhouse is now open to the public. Lead by Chef Mark Davis, Chef Edwin Winslow and Scott Strong, the self-serve wine bar and restaurant held its soft opening on May 6, and will host a ribbon cutting celebration with the Tahoe Chamber on May 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. to kick-off a weekend of grand opening festivities.

In a story that has had national attention, the $1,000 fines for violations of parking, noise and other ordinances for each the renter and homeowner have become the spotlight.
Council will look at the fines and rules for parking and bear boxes, and the fact that both renter and homeowners are fined for each instance.

South Lake Tahoe community group attempts to get new initiative on the ballot

Created by the Sustainable Community Alliance (SCA), a group in South Lake Tahoe, the initiative is giving voters another chance to voice their opinion about vacation home rentals (VHRs) and should be on the ballot along with another initiative that wants to ban VHRs.
LimeBike to expand to use of scooters in South Lake Tahoe

At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Sam Dreiman, Manager of Strategic Development for LimeBike, and Jesse Patterson, Deputy Director of the League to Save Lake Tahoe, made a presentation to Council on numbers from 2017 and plans for 2018.

He was the first born child of Charles and Florence Engstrom McClure in Martinez, Calif., on October 7, 1050. Soon after, they moved to San Francisco, they lived in the student housing quonset huts while Charles got his teaching degree. Four years later they moved to San Anselmo, in Marin County, where the family lived in an Asian pagoda style home until 2016.

Locals Tim and Kristi Cain moved into the space vacated by Verde and spent weeks creating the new restaurant and menu. Two Douglas County businesses cited for selling liquor to minors

The following 25 businesses were checked and they successfully passed the alcohol compliance check and did not sell alcohol to a minor.

Almost one year ago almost five million women, men and children gathered around the world to participate in the Women's March on Washington on the same day President Trump was being inaugurated.
They gathered to stand together in their protest of reproductive rights, equal pay, safety for women in the workplace and more. They stood against racism, sexism, sexual assault and harassment. They stood against Trump and his policies that were racist, anti-LGBT and anti-women.

We Order Well (W.O.W.!) is a new program for the County, and it provides restaurants with the materials they need to offer customers new healthier menu options when dining out. W.O.W! encourages smaller portion sizes for some already-popular menu items and also encourages healthier kids menus by adding extra fruits and veggies, removing sugar-sweetened beverages, and reducing fried foods.
Armed robbery at Douglas County Subway

A Caucasian male in his 20’s wearing a black mask, light colored jacket; dark pants and black tennis shoes entered the business on 1-6-18 at 6:15 p.m. and brandished a weapon.

The Tahoe Restaurant Group, operators of BaseCamp Pizza and Azul Latin Kitchen in South Lake Tahoe, Fireside Pizza Company in Olympic Valley, Rubicon Pizza Company in Truckee will be fundraising for victims of the fires in Northern California and hurricanes in Puerto Rico on November 13, 2017.
All proceeds from dinners purchased at of those four establishments that day will be donated directly to the victims.
Both South Lake Tahoe restaurants are located in the Heavenly Village, Rubicon Pizza is at 6001 Northstar Drive, and Fireside is located at 1985 Squaw Valley Road.
DUI arrest after car flips in South Lake Tahoe parking lot
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/03/2017 - 1:21pmNo one was injured Thursday night after a 31-year-old woman from South Lake Tahoe lost control of her vehicle in the parking lot in front of Lotus Pho 2 / Freshies Restaurant on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
The woman was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges and has since posted the $10,000 bail and been released.
South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue responded along with South Lake Tahoe Police.
Active military families treated to weekend in Lake Tahoe

The mission of the program was to weave family activities that blend adventure and communication workshops into the retreat weekend. The families were nurtured and challenged physically, emotionally and mentally while they worked together and thrived through fun and engaging challenges on the SEA, AIR, and LAND.

Help Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care raise funds to help them care for injured and orphaned wild birds and animals at their "Wild & Free: A Culinary Event" on Thursday, October 19, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Not only will attendees be helping a worthwhile cause, they will also be treated to a wonderful selection of fine wines, craft beers and culinary creations from The Lake House chef Jeff Sparrow.
Lake Tahoe recreational areas and forest roads begin their seasonal closures
Submitted by paula on Sat, 10/14/2017 - 8:21amThe U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will soon begin closing recreational facilities and forest roads around the Lake Tahoe Basin for the winter season. Seasonal closures apply to many Forest Service recreation sites including beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas and forest roads. Keep in mind that Tahoe Valley and Zephyr Cove Resort campgrounds remain open year-round along with Camp Richardson and Zephyr Cove resorts and beaches.
South Lake Tahoe man charged with burglarizing pizza restaurant
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/12/2017 - 11:50amA South Lake Tahoe man has been arrested on charges he allegedly burglarized the Lake Tahoe Pizza Company on October 9, 2017.
At 10:00 a.m., officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to an alarm at the popular restaurant located at 1168 Emerald Bay Road. Upon arrival they learned someone had gained entry through a window and left through a door, and that cash was missing.
Video surveillance showed them a suspect.
