Body of Gilroy man located in Lake Tahoe

4:30 p.m. UPDTE: The body of the missing Gilroy man was located this afternoon in 117 feet of water off the shore of Lake Tahoe.

The El Dorado County Sheriff's dive team with their remote operating vehicle (ROV) found 25-year-old Ian Morlang. He was brought up to the surface and placed on the South Lake Tahoe Police Marine 1 boat, then taken to the Tahoe Keys Marina.

Police officers draped a flag on Morlang as he was carried into a waiting vehicle.

Next of kin has been notified.

The coroner transported the body to the morgue in Placerville.

Search to resume Wednesday for man missing in Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A man who had been swimming with friends is missing tonight in Lake Tahoe off the southern shore and the search for him will resume Wednesday morning.

Temporary public access, traffic changes at the Upper Truckee Marsh

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Starting in July public access will be limited or restricted in portions of the Upper Truckee Marsh to protect the public during construction of the new river and marsh restoration project.

The California Tahoe Conservancy is restoring more than 250 acres of the marsh ecosystem to enhance wildlife habitat, improve water quality entering Lake Tahoe, and create an accessible-to-all trail to Lake Tahoe. Restoration activities will continue into fall 2022.

Lake Tahoe boat ramps to start opening up for boats not needing inspection

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Boat ramps around Lake Tahoe will start opening this week, but at this time only vessels with an intact Lake Tahoe inspection seal can launch and no uninspected vessels from outside the Tahoe Region will be able to get on the water.

Flipper Manchester, a South Lake Tahoe construction company owner, was originally hired to demolish the yacht that had been dry-docked at the Tahoe Keys Marina for years.

Man died in Lake Tahoe after heading to beach to fly model airplane

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe man who died in Lake Tahoe Monday has been identified as 74-year-old Robert Hill.

Mr. Hill left his home in the Tahoe Keys on Monday, August 27, 2018 at about 8:30 a.m. to go fly his model airplane on the Lighthouse Shore beach. According to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), it appears the model plane crashed into Lake Tahoe and he went in to retrieve it.

Tahoe Keys corporation yard to move from Upper Truckee River marsh

The Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) will be moving their corporation yard from a 2.21-acre parcel of environmentally sensitive land to a developable 0.99-acre parcel adjacent to the Tahoe Keys Marina.

On Wednesday, the California Tahoe Conservancy Board authorized their staff to move forward with an agreement with TKPOA. This move allows the Conservancy to restore the site as part of its Upper Truckee Marsh restoration project, one of the largest and most important restoration projects in the history of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue is inviting the public to the christening of their new boat, the Ms. Lisa, on Monday, April 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Keys Marina Boat Ramp.

Financed by a generous donation by local philanthropist Lisa Maloff, the new water safety rescue boat bears her name.

Benefit cruise to support former local fighting cancer

When Gage Olson's boss at Zephyr Cove Resorts found out her mother was fighting breast cancer he decided he couldn't just stand by and do nothing. He organized a benefit cruise on the Tahoe Bleu Wave to raise funds for Gage's mom, Tisha Young.

Young, 49, who has lived in South Lake Tahoe on and off for over a dozen years, now calls Grants Pass, Oregon her home. She moved there to be with her father as he was on dialysis, and now that he is gone (he died on April 13), she is fighting her own battle, Stage 4A of a rare form of Breast Cancer.

The evening will feature a scenic cruise along the pristine shores of Lake Tahoe, in addition to live Jewish music, a silent auction, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. The cruise will depart from the Tahoe Keys Marina.

Water restored to Tahoe Keys Marina

4:30 p.m. update: At 3:35 p.m. Friday afternoon the water was turned back on at the Tahoe Keys Marina. The two parties, Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association and Tahoe Keys Marina Management Inc., were able to work out an arrangement to get things flowing again.

The marina's lawyer Michael Matuska said he will file notice with the court to vacate the August 3 hearing as the two parties will be working on a continued relationship out of court.

Matuska did not release the specifics of the arrangement that restored the water service which has been down since July 11.

Judge rules against Tahoe Keys Marina, water to stay off for now

The water at the Tahoe Keys Marina will remain off for the time being after the issue was brought before El Dorado Superior Court for the third time in less than a week on Tuesday, July 18. With the water at the marina turned off, water is also turned off to the Fresh Ketch restaurant as well as apartments and businesses at the marina.

Water at the Tahoe Keys Marina, including that at the Fresh Ketch restaurant and all tenants, remains off after a dispute between the Tahoe Keys Marina and the Tahoe Keys Property Owner's Association (TKPOA).

Lawyers for both parties were in court in South Lake Tahoe both Wednesday and Thursday, and may be back in court again on Tuesday, July 18.

Popular South Lake Tahoe waterfront restaurant closed after water shut off

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - An ongoing legal battle between the Tahoe Keys Marina and the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) has resulted in the water being shut off to all buildings at the marina.

Since the Fresh Ketch restaurant and adjacent deli are in one of those buildings, the El Dorado County Health Department shut them down due to a lack of water. A notice was also put up on the apartments in the complex advising residents of unsafe living conditions since there was no running water.

Cave Rock boat ramp to close for one to two months, Sand Harbor ramp closed for season

A construction project at the Cave Rock Boat Launch area has been underway for the past three weeks, closing part of the parking lot, and now the rest of the area will close starting Monday, August 1.

Nevada State Parks is installling new curbs and sidewalks, upgrading restrooms, removing the old unused boat ramp at the south end of the park, restriping the parking spaces and other enhancemnts to ease conjestion.

Dogs allowed back in the Upper Truckee Marsh, ban ending

The seasonal dog closure of the Upper Truckee Marsh ends on Sunday, July 31.

Each year, the California Tahoe Conservancy closing the marsh to dogs from May 1 through July 31 to protect the critical breeding habitat for special, threatened, and endangered species.

Wooden Boat Classic returns to the Tahoe Keys this weekend

The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic returns to the Tahoe Keys Marina this weekend with a celebration of vintage raceboats. Featured will be industrialist Henry Kaiser, Jr.'s one-of-a-kind 1930 Gar Wood Hornet II and his 1955 Scooter Too with its huge and extremely rare 24-cylinder Allison engine. Both hydroplanes are racing legends. Also on display will be the 1913 Redskin, the 1950's movie star Hurricane IV and the all-aluminium experimental Shanty II.

Small diesel leak in the Tahoe Keys cleaned up; cause unknown

There has been another spill in the Tahoe Keys, this time a small diesel fuel spill in the Spinnaker Cove area between White Sands and the beach.

On Wednesday, May 25, the spill was reported at about 4:00 p.m. to the California Office of Emergency Services by the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA). Employees from TKPOA immediately placed booms in the water to keep the fuel from spreading.

Clean Harbor arrived on Thursday to lay out more booms and absorbent pads on the fuel and were able to pull them out on Friday.

Cleanup of Tahoe Keys oil spill continues

Investigators from the Department of Fish and Wildlife Warden's office were at the Tahoe Keys Marina again on Wednesday, trying to find the source of an oil leak that was discovered on Monday, April 11. They were joined by a press information officer and a biologist, all from the agency's pollution office.

They said was no wildlife impact found at the scene, and all fish in the shallow marina and birds in the area didn't appear to be harmed by the oil.

An oil leak found Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Tahoe Keys Marina is being cleaned up, but the source of the oil is still unknown. After being found, the spill was reported to the California Office of Emergency Services, the agency that deals with oils spill hazardous materials.

The California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) is investigating the leak and have taken samples to test to try and determine origin.

Clean Harbors has been hired by the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association to clean up the oil. Their truck and containment boom were at the marina on Tuesday.

Windjammers Yacht Club Annual Chowder Feed and Membership Drive

Upper Truckee Marsh to be restored

After decades of planning, analysis, and public input, the California Tahoe Conservancy Board recently approved the final plan to restore the largest remaining wetland in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The Upper Truckee River and Marsh Restoration Project will restore over 500 acres of highly disturbed wetland habitat, improving the natural filtration capacity of the Marsh and reducing a major source of fine sediment that clouds Tahoe’s famed lake clarity.

TRPA approves settlement for Tahoe Keys Marina violation

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Governing Board on Wednesday approved a $7,500 settlement agreement with the Tahoe Keys Marina and Yacht Club, LLC.

The settlement is for the Tahoe Keys Marina and Yacht Club’s unauthorized grading and creation of coverage at a California Tahoe Conservancy property located near the end of Venice Drive in South Lake Tahoe. The property impacted by this violation is not classified by TRPA as a stream environment zone or wetland.

Herbicides may be used on invasive species in Tahoe Keys

The underwater scenes could be straight out of "Creature of the Black Lagoon." Long feathery tendrils of green plants, growing at alarming rates in the Tahoe Keys and attracting fish not before known in the crystal blue waters of the lake.

The plant described here is better known as the Eurasian Watermilfoil. It is joined by another nuisance non-native plant, the curlyleaf pondweed, in creating problems in the waters of the Tahoe Keys.

South Lake Tahoe now has Venetian gondola service in the Keys

You may have pictured a scene in Venice, Italy, but this is now a reality in Lake Tahoe with new South Shore business Tahoe Amore, a Venetian gondola company offering tours through the Tahoe Keys.

Tahoe Amore will celebrate a ribbon cutting with Tahoe Chamber on July 16 at 4 p.m. in the Tahoe Keys Marina.

Standoff at the Tahoe Keys Marina ends with arrest of suspect

More details of Saturday's arrest have been released by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

As the pursuit of a car driven by 35-year-old Cory Pearson of Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe ended at the Tahoe Keys Marina, officers were able to establish a perimeter around his vehicle which had been reported stolen in Lakeland Village. Pearson yelled to officers that he was armed with a gun and threatened to use it if anyone approached. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT Team and Crisis Response Team were called to assist.

Volunteers remove 100 gallons of invasive Milfoil from Lake Tahoe

100 gallons of invasive Eurasian Watermilfoil were removed from the Upper Truckee River by 14 League to Save Lake Tahoe volunteers on August 5.

The volunteers worked on the 1,000 foot stretch of the river near the Tahoe Keys Marina. This infestation was the first to be identified and removed by trained Eyes on the Lake volunteers. It was also the first confirmed new infestation discovered at Lake Tahoe in several years. A follow-up volunteer effort will take place later this month to ensure the infestation is completely gone.

Agencies working to stabilize land harmed by Tahoe Keys Marina

The Tahoe Keys Marina is possibly facing charges for illegally grading a plot of land next to Venice Drive in order to create a temporary parking lot for the Wooden Boat Show this past weekend.

The California Tahoe Conservancy, who owns the land, will be installing temporary Best Management Practices (BMPs)in order to stabilize the approximately one acre of land where dirt was moved and vegetation cleared. The Conservancy had already spent funds on stabilizing the land.

Tahoe Boat Inspections Move Back to Launch Ramps for Fall & Winter

On October 1, boat inspections will move to select launch ramps and winter hours will begin. Tahoe RCD (Resource Conservation District) inspectors will be stationed at Cave Rock and Lake Forest boat launches from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, weather permitting. Boats with attached Lake Tahoe wire inspection seals and valid Tahoe inspection stickers will be permitted to launch during these times, but any unsealed boats are required to get an inspection during daylight hours.
