Progressive bluegrass act headlines next Live at Lakeview

The Lil’ Smokies bring authentic bluegrass from the garden city of Missoula, MT to Live at Lakeview this Thursday.

“It’s a well known fact that South Lake Tahoe loves its bluegrass music,” states Leslie Schultz. “The first time I had the pleasure of seeing The Lil’ Smokies live, I knew within the first six notes that they needed to come back and play on the Live at Lakeview stage! Slight change to end times of SnowGlobe

SnowGlobe will be able to have amplified music go later this winter in order to stagger the times concert goers leave the venue. With 15,000 people leaving at the same time, concert promoters said this would allow them to more adequately and safely accommodate the people leaving and not create long lines at the buses.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, the council voted unanimously to allow the concert promoters to have amplified music in the tents only until 11:30 p.m. on December 29 and 30 and until 1:00 a.m. on December 31.

Due to a forecasted 80% chance of thunderstorms today, Live at Lakeview will be held inside Tep’s Villa Roma’s banquet room from 7:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. World’s Finest, a 5-piece Americana band with a ska twist will perform for Live at Lakeview’s
3rd week in the series with MerryGold opening the show at 7:00 p.m. Admission for this 21+ show will be $5, which will go to the entertainment.

New Orleans Spirit to kick off holiday weekend at Live at Lakeview

The 6,000 people attending the Reggae Festival at the Hard Rock Lake Tahoe are being evacuated because of lightning in the area.

Several strikes of lightning in the South Lake Tahoe area Saturday evening prompted the necessity to get the people out according to Tahoe Douglas Fire Marshal Eric Guevin. He was expecting the open the venue back up as soon as safe. As of 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the lightening was in the ridge about Glenbrook.

On Course Events and the City of South Lake Tahoe are the sponsors of the event. The City just approved giving On Course Events a new 5-year agreement.

South Lake Tahoe no longer a part of Hot August Nights

For the past several years, South Lake Tahoe has been a part of Hot August Nights with a few days of local show and shines, cruises and concerts prior to the big annual event in Reno.

Kelly Keagy and Night Ranger looking forward to playing at Hard Rock Lake Tahoe

It was a blast from the past today as I spoke with Night Ranger's drummer Kelly Keagy. We covered everything from playing discos in my hometown of Fremont, CA in the 70s to playing in large arenas with the likes of Kiss and ZZTop, to playing at the Hard Rock Casino Lake Tahoe this weekend.

Keagy is one of the founding members of the band Night Ranger. He and buddies Jack Blades and Brad Gillis formed the band in 1979, and the three are still performing around the world as well as recording albums today.

Sierra-at-Tahoe latest resort to close due to drought

Sierra-at-Tahoe is the latest Lake Tahoe area ski resort to announce that it will suspend operations, beginning Monday, because of the lack of snow brought on by the ongoing drought in the west.

Imagine Dragons, Sammy Hagar and Slightly Stoopid added to Harveys Outdoor Arena lineup

Grammy-award winning alternative rock band Imagine Dragons has been added to the Harvey's Outdoor Concert Series with a performance on July 18. Imagine Dragons' debut album in 2012 produced a slew of hits which include "Radioactive," "It's Time," "Demons," "On Top Of The World," "Bleeding Out," "Tiptoes" and "Nothing Left To Say."

Their second album, "Smoke + Mirrors", was released in February. Tickets will cost $89.50-$179.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. on March 20.

City awards OnCourse Events a five year contract for Live at Lakeview

Live at Lakeview is now classified as a signature event for the City of South Lake Tahoe, and once that was clarified during Tuesday's City Council meeting, Rob Guistina's business OnCourse Events, was awarded a five year contract to put on the Thursday night concert series.

Since the city is actually giving the event about $41,500 in waived venue charges ($650 a week), in kind services of parks, streets and public safety personnel, and cash.

Five shows announced so far for Harvey's Outdoor Concert Series

Five big nights of music have already been announced for Harvey's Outdoor Concert venue and tickets are already selling.

SnowGlobe two days in: 52 arrests and six noise complaints

With crowds approaching 14,000 nightly, one would expect some complaints and arrests. SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe had both during the first two nights.

On Monday, the first night of the techno-music concert there were 17 arrests for miscellaneous alcohol related violations, mainly minors in possession of alcohol or providing alcohol to a minor. There was one arrest for selling drugs and two noise complaints phoned into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department's dispatch.

High energy at SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

There is so much more to SnowGlobe that the beat of the bass heard echoing through the trees in your neighborhood. It is much more than a very large group of young people turning out for a techno concert outdoors.

It is an experience.

I am a member of the "over 50" crowd so the music featured at SnowGlobe is not something I know much about so I went into SnowGlobe to see what it's all about.

SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared for very cold temperatures

Cold, Cold, Cold. That is the forecast for South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday night and SnowGlobe attendees need to be prepared.

A cold front heading to the Sierra on Monday is expected to bring with it 1" to 3" of snow on Tuesday, below normal temperatures and winds at 16 mph with local gusts up to 38 mph. The higher peaks will see winds up to 80 mph.

SnowGlobe attendees will need to be prepared for very cold temps since the high on Tuesday will max out at 24 and the low of 10 will feel more like -7 with the wind chill.

South Lake Tahoe prepares for SnowGlobe

The stages were being set up Monday at the Community Play Fields in South Lake Tahoe. Large tents could be seen from Al Tahoe Blvd as work crews were busy getting things ready for SnowGlobe which will be in South Lake Tahoe December 28-31.

Residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the fields and Lake Tahoe Community College received a letter recently from the City of South Lake Tahoe, alerting them that the three day outdoor concert is once again coming to the South Shore.

Himmel Haus to start Haus Party Winter Music Series in the new year

Cardinale Way giving away 400 dinners in South Lake Tahoe

"We want to take care of everyone that needs it," said Cardinale Way General Manager Joe Caracciolo when asked what moved the South Lake Tahoe dealership to offer free Thanksgiving dinners for 400 people this Thursday.

From 10 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving, people who need a meal can go to the American Legion parking lot and receive a fully cooked meal which will include turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables and a roll.

Former Horizon Casino in Lake Tahoe to become a Hard Rock Casino & Hotel

South Lake Tahoe's Horizon Resort Casino is going to be a Hard Rock Casino & Hotel by the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015.

This comes amid local speculation and rumors that have been circling the community since the Horizon's closure this spring.

The new casino has a facebook page and website already.

Hard Rock Lake Tahoe is undergoing $60M in renovations and redesign that will highlight rock and roll and will also serve as a live music venue.

Sound an Issue at Day 1 of SnowGlobe in South Lake Tahoe

With a lack of snow in South Lake Tahoe to act as a buffer, the sound from SnowGlobe has more of an effect on area residents.

The concert has a maximum of 95 decibels allowed for sound, the same as last year. But with the reports received Sunday night on the City of South Lake Tahoe's SnowGlobe hotline, the reach of the sound is much greater and more bothersome to the callers than last year.

SnowGlobe Begins in South Lake Tahoe

Unless you haven't been reading the news or paying attention to what's going on in South Lake Tahoe, you know that SnowGlobe 2013 is here. The three day concert got underway on Sunday, December 29 and will wrap up with a New Year's Eve show on Tuesday night.

Throngs of people made their way into the concert Sunday, some decked out in costume, others scantily clad, while many took heed to the cold weather and came prepared in warm clothing. It was apparent that all were there for a good time and many started their party prior to arrival.
