LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Fire & Fuels Team (TFFT) is scheduled to continue prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe. Conditions and weather permitting, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is planning to conduct an understory burn on 13 acres near the east side of Pioneer Trail between Jicarilla Drive and Golden Bear Trail on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Forest Service fire prevention staff and partners will be onsite answering questions on Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Pioneer Trail across from Jicarilla Drive.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Flatstick Pub will be holding a week of events during the American Century Championship at Lake Tahoe. In collaboration with Tahoe Art League, Flatstick Pub has announced an art competition that takes inspiration from the electrifying energy of a battle of the bands. On July 14 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. the "battle" brings together renowned celebrities from various artistic disciplines, providing a unique platform to showcase their talents.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - Carlos Villasenor, 40, of Placerville, was sentenced Monday to 15 months in prison for possession of dogs for use in an animal fighting venture, U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert announced. Villasenor was also ordered to pay a $5,500 fine and a $2,700 special assessment.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms continue through the middle of the week with relatively mild
temperatures for late June. A ridge will bring significantly warmer and drier conditions by the end of the week and into the July 4th holiday weekend, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. This warm-up will also bring rises to all area waterways.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The El Dorado County Food Bank starts its free monthly farmer's markets in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Theresa Church at 1041 Lyons Avenue, South Lake Tahoe.

The truck will be bringing fresh vegetables, fruit, and other staples each month.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for another one of its summer Tahoe History Talks on the Beach on Tuesday, June 27 at 7 p.m. The speaker this week is author/historian David Woodruff with “Dam Lake Tahoe.”

Lake Tahoe’s waters have been highly valued for thousands of years, important to Native Americans, Comstock mining barons, and Bay Area civic leaders as well as providing an enduring inspiration for all who see it.

Tessie's Big Bites concession is scheduled to be open until the start of the history talks each week.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join Mayor Cristi Creegan and the City's Complete Streets Program Manager Jason Burke as they share the history of the Class I bike trails, some new additions to the trails, and future expansions on Tuesday, June 27 from 5 p.m to 7 p.m.

The Community Hike will take place along the bike trail adjacent to El Dorado Beach (1-mile round trip). The meetup location will be at Champion's Plaza next to the Lakeview Commons parking area.

After the hike, enjoy some ice cream while overlooking the lake (dairy-free options will be available).

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - NV Energy will resume work on its Carson City to Glenbrook Transmission Line Rebuild Project on Monday, June 16 in the Glenbrook and Spooner Summit area.

During construction, the public may experience traffic delays primarily within the Spooner Summit area of US50 and just south of the SR28 interchange. The Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT), Spooner Summit Trailhead, and Spooner Summit South Day Use Area will remain open for public use.

When it comes to the idea of governments raising the minimum wage, politicians are fond of pounding their chests and proclaiming that if only others would allow them to raise the minimum wage that poverty among their constituents could be eradicated. INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) is investigating the death of a man in Incline Village, Nev. On June 23, 2023, at approximately 11:28 p.m., WCSO deputies responded to the area of Jeffrey Street and Hazel Court for a report of an unresponsive person.

Upon arrival, first responders found a deceased male at the residence.

Detectives are investigating this as an "isolated incident and there is no outstanding threat to the public."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Tahoe Public Utility Disrict (STPUD) is hosting four free gardening workshops this summer. The first one is on Tuesday, June 27 at 6 p.m. - Rethinking Your Lawn. Learn about turf alternatives and lawn removal methods.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The Nevada Department of Transporation (NDOT) continues its work on SR28 in Incline Village. They will not be working on the SR431 (Mt. Rose Highway) project over the next few weeks. Commercial vehicle restrictions are lifted now through July 9.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The U.S. Forest Service responded to a small wildfire on the east shore of Lake Tahoe on Friday afternoon. The fire was in an area south of US50 called Montreal Canyon and was named the Genoa Fire.

The Genoa Fire was reported at 3:26 p.m. and was approximately 1/2 acre at 4 p.m. A helicopter provided by Bridgeport Helitack made bucket drops as fire engines headed to the area.

As of 7 p.m., a fuel break is around the fire and it is contained. Crews will remain on the scene overnight to watch the area.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - The inaugural Mane Event benefitting Between Horses and Humans will take place on August 12, 2023, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. Untethered Space at Round Hill is hosting this family-friendly event, featuring catering by Maggie's of the Desolation Hotel.
