New superintendent for Alpine County Unified School District

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Ken Burkhart has been hired as the new superintendent of schools for Alpine County and the new principal of Bear Valley Elementary School.

Burkhart arrives in Alpine County with many years of experience working in small school districts and rural communities. He comes from Pope Valley in Napa County where he served as the superintendent, principal, and teacher at Pope Valley Elementary for the past 7.5 years. Prior to that, he held the same role in the town of Flournoy in Tehama County.

The new superintendent just bought a lot in the town of Markleeville and will be living in his trailer as he builds a new home. Burkhart has two dogs, Stela and Edith who live for belly rubs and head massages. he enjoys science fiction, computers and technology, and has remodeled several homes.
