Roads around Lake Tahoe a mess, I80 closed due to mudslide, Hwy 50 closed again near Ice House

4:30 p.m. update: Just as the Highway 50 opened, it is once again closed in both directions due to a "large mud slide" at Ice House Road, the third slide on Highway 50 today.

4:30 p.m. update: Highway 50 through Kyburz is back open. Traffic is reduced to one-lane controlled traffic, but moving.

3:20 p.m. update: Per Caltrans, Highway 50 at Kyburz may be open by 5:00 p.m. as they are still trying to get the lanes clear. They also said I80 is still closed to both directions except for emergency vehicles. Crews were able to get the eastbound lanes cleared but westbound is still under mud and the slopes are very unstable. It may be hours at the minimum.

The Carson Spur remains closed but the rest of SR 88 is open, including Carson Pass, is open.

The Nevada road closures listed below remain the same.

Heavy, wet snow around Lake Tahoe has created an interesting day of driving around Lake Tahoe and Western Nevada.

As of 1:15 p.m. Friday:

Highway 50 west of Echo Summit is currently closed due to a downed tree in the Sand Flat Campground area. Crews are on the scene.

In El Dorado County, US50 is closed in both directions from 8 miles east of Ice House Rd to 12 miles east of Ice House Rd due to a down tree.

Kingsbury Grade was closed earlier to several crashes, but it is reopened at this house. Highway 50 at Logan Creek remains closed due to the unstable hillside.

In the Carson Valley, Highway 395 is closed due to flooding south of Carson City with traffic being diverted to Jack's Valley Road. Traffic, as can be expected, is very heavy in that area. Several connector roads from Jack's Valley to the east are closed due to flooding.

I80 from Colfax to Nyack is closed due to a mudslide. There is no estimated time of reopening at this time.

SR88: The Carson Spur is closed. The road through Hope Valley is closed due to a slide. The road is closed near Kirkwood for avalanche control.
