Douglas authorities identify Gardnerville woman found dead of gunshot wound; investigation is 'ongoing'

Authorities found the woman lying dead on the floor from an apparent single gunshot wound to her head.
Initial investigation with the surviving husband has revealed information that the female may have been emotionally distraught over personal issues, Halsey said.
Douglas County authorities have identified the 31-year-old Gardnerville woman found Sunday with a fatal gunshot wound to the head as Rachel Ann Vargas.
Sgt. Jim Halsey of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said investigation is "ongoing" and "no additional details can be released at this time" regarding the woman's death, reported early Sunday morning, Feb. 19.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of Vargas who appears to have died by an apparent death by gunshot, authorities said. No other details have been released. An autopsy is pending, Halsey said.
