South Tahoe HIgh graduate Jerod Haase leads UAB to conference title

Just three days after the Reno Gazette Journal said Jerod Haase should be a top candidate for the head coaching job at UNR, Haase's University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) team won their first Conference USA Tournament championship.

The UAB Blazers beat Middle Tennessee 73-60.

Haase was a star basketball player for South Tahoe High who won Nevada AAA Player of the Year after helping the Viking team to a state championship in 1992. He went on to play for Cal Berkeley and the Kansas Jayhawks. After his playing career he went into coaching, first as an assistant at Kansas and North Carolina under Roy Williams. Haase has been the head coach at UAB since 2012.

UAB now waits for the NCAA Tournament selections on Sunday.
