Suspect arrested for South Lake Tahoe crime where man was bound, gagged and injured

A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in Southern California after a warrant was issued for his arrest for allegedly binding, gagging and injuring a 43-year-old man earlier this week, and then stealing his vehicle.

Alberto Ochoa, 30, was arrested Thursday in Rancho Cucamonga when deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on the missing Subaru. Ochoa was driving the vehicle. He was booked on a warrant from South Lake Tahoe and is currently in the San Bernardino Jail on $1,000,000 bail.

On March 29th, 2017 at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a report of a male tied up, and possibly stabbed, inside his residence in the 3600 block of Spruce Ave. When SLTPD arrived the found the victim as well as a significant amount blood found inside the apartment. He was transported to Barton Hospital and is in currently stable condition.

The victim’s 2000 Subaru Legacy was stolen from the scene. SLTPD Detectives, with assistance from the El Dorado County District Attorney and Sheriff's offices worked through the night and into the next day to identify the suspect and locate the victim’s stolen vehicle.

They identified Ochoa as the suspect in this case and secured a warrant for his arrest on charges of Robbery, Kidnapping and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

SLTPD detectives are currently in San Bernardino County and are interviewing Ochoa.

Further information is not available at this time. This investigation is ongoing. According to SLTPD Sgt. Shannon Laney they believe Ochoa acted alone.
