Arrest made in South Lake Tahoe felony hit-and-run

11:15 p.m. update: According to El Dorado County Jail logs, the suspect who turned themself into law enforcement is Joseph Matthew Chesler, 33, of South Lake Tahoe. His bail has been set at $125,000, $75,000 for Hit and Run Causing Injury/Death and $50,000 for Involuntary Manslaughter.

An arrest has been made in Tuesday night's fatal hit-and-run crash in South Lake Tahoe.

"An adult male was arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail-South Lake Tahoe this evening for the charge of 20001 CVC (Hit & Run-causing injury/death)," California Highway Patrol Lt. Terry Lowther told South Tahoe Now.

There is no further information available at this time and CHP will be releasing more when their investigation is completed.

On Wednesday, June 27, workers on the Caltrans project on US50 found the body of a 33-year-old South Lake Tahoe man on the side of the road when they arrived at the job at 5:39 a.m. The victim had been riding a bike when he was hit by a vehicle. The victim had been riding his bike across US50 from Motel 6 to the bridge area east of Grocery Outlet.

On Friday morning, CHP issued an update on what the suspect's vehicle looked like:

AKE: GMC or CHEVY
MODEL: Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV)
COLOR: Dark
YEAR: 90's
OTHER: Lifted, Loud Exhaust, Over-sized Tires, Possibly covered in dry mud, front end damage

After 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, the person who had been behind the wheel turned himself into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. They called CHP, and officers took him to their offices to continue the investigation.
