Driver of motorcycle on Kingsbury Grade dies in crash, passenger sent to hospital

UPDATE 8/3/19 3:30 p.m.: A Fallon, Nevada man has been identified as the victim in Sunday's fatal motorcycle crash on Kingsbury Grade.

Just before 8:00 p.m. on July 28 Nevada Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to a serious injury crash on SR-207/Kingsbury Grade one mile up from Lake Tahoe at Douglas County Mile Marker 1.

Preliminary investigation shows that a black 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound on SR-207. For an unknown reason, the motorcycle overturned and both the driver and passenger were ejected.

The driver has been identified as Carlos Esparza, a 56-year-old man from Dayton, NV. He succumbed to his injuries.

STATELINE, Nev. – One person died and another was transported to the hospital after a motorcycle went down on Kingsbury Grade/SR207 Sunday evening.

At 7:57 p.m. on July 28, an emergency call was received about a motorcycle down on the curve between Palisades Drive and Katherine Dr, about one mile up Kingsbury Grade from Lake Tahoe. The crash is still under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol but what has been released is the eastbound motorcycle had one adult driver and one juvenile on board.

Upon the arrival of Tahoe Douglas Fire, CPR by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was already in progress. The juvenile passenger was transported to Renown Hospital in Reno with unknown injuries.

The adult driver died at the scene.

There were no other vehicles involved and the crash left the highway was closed for about two hours.

At this time no ages, names or hometowns are being released until next of kin has been notified. The Nevada Highway Patrol expects to have more information released on Tuesday.
