“We at Heavenly Ski Patrol are very proud and humbled to be of service to our community,” shared Mary Becherer, a member of the Heavenly Ski Patrol. In addition to serving the skiers at Heavenly Mountain Resort by ensuring that the mountain’s skiers are safe and assisting them when needed, the Heavenly Ski Patrol Foundation members also wanted to serve community members by hosting Bread & Broth’s (B&B) Monday Meal on December 30.
Leaving their skis and patrol jackets at the slopes, Mary Bechere, Rick Davis, Callie Kellacky, and Sean Willis donned Bread & Broth aprons, joined the Bread & Broth volunteers to put together, and served the 112 grateful dinner guests who enjoyed the evening’s meal and the bags of food they picked up to take home to supplement meals later in the week.
It was a busy night for the Heavenly Ski Patrol Adopt A Day (AAD) crew volunteers. They helped pack about 90 food giveaway bags, set up the dessert table, manned the serving line, dried pans, silverware, and dinner trays, and helped break down and clean the dining area. As an AAD volunteer, the three hours of service goes by quickly due to the fast pace of the tasks needed to serve a full-course dinner.
“We are happy to participate in such an excellent and healthy food outreach to the vast range of folks that reside here in South Tahoe,” said Mary. Since Bread & Broth’s free meals are available to anyone who comes for dinner, the diners range in age from tots to seniors, many ethnicities are represented, and income level range varies among the diners.
Thank you to the Heavenly Ski Patrol Foundation members for supporting B&B by hosting several AADs during the year and sending helpful and cheerful volunteers to assist at their sponsorship meal.
