Luis Rangel Licol, who would have turned 77 on Valentine’s Day, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Luis was a beloved member of the community.

Born in Cuba, Luis came to the United States at the age of 19 when he was rescued and arrived at the Port of San Diego. He eventually made his home in South Lake Tahoe, living in the Al Tahoe neighborhood for over 40 years.

Though he had a sister, Anna, another sister, Amanda, and a brother back in Cuba, Luis never reunited with his family after coming to the U.S., a dream he always held close to his heart.

Luis was deeply loved by the Al Tahoe community, where many neighbors supported him through his struggles. Known for his kindness and helpfulness, he often pitched in to help others by raking leaves and shoveling snow, always ready to lend a hand. His generosity and warm spirit made him a cherished member of the community who will be greatly missed.

A celebration of his life will be held to honor his memory.
