SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The California Tahoe Conservancy is in the planning process for restoration and public access improvements at the south end of the Upper Truckee Marsh in South Lake Tahoe, including the site of the former Motel 6.

The Conservancy received public comment on the project in 2025 and is continuing in that process before a final project concept is completed.

View the Upper Truckee Marsh South project concept boards to:

  • See the findings from the initial public engagement last spring
  • Explore potential actions to restore the marsh
  • Compare options for improving the South Tahoe Bikeway
  • Review potential day-use recreation amenities that could be part of the project

After reviewing the concepts, please share your input by taking the online survey. If you are not familiar with this area, check out the Story Map to orient yourself.

* The Conservancy has added additional context to the fourth board to clarify how they are assessing the potential for parking to facilitate access to the site’s trails, the river, or other day-use amenities. In addition, they have added a line about parking to question five in the online survey.
