Hello!

My name is Keely Kapsoff and after reading an article that was posted up in Incline I realized that I too needed to write a story about my concern with the recycling program in Tahoe.

Well it all started a few years ago when I moved back here and I brought my recyclables into the dump, I did this for many months and realized that every time I gave the guy a bag he would just throw it on top of all the trash. I asked many employees why we don’t just have a place to put all the blue bags? All responded that there is a conveyor belt and it sorts it.

Ok great but you just threw my blue bag of paper and now its going to get wet and your not going to recycle it. Right? Anyways, after 6 months of this and people trying to convince me the recycling program works well I decided to walk in and talk to someone in the office and ask a few questions. Of course after a good long discussion I find out the recycling center is on the same street and that would be the best place to drop off these items. It made me feel great to know my items would be recycled but what about all the blue bags being thrown in the dumpsters all over Tahoe and what about the blue bags at the dump?

I am writing you this story because I truly care about the recycling program and teaching my kids to respect mother earth but a program that claims to recycle all these bags seems like a big lie to me. Why not figure out a better way to keep those blue bags in tact and at the correct facility to ensure we are truly doing our best to recycle. If it wasn’t for that article I read last month while i was in Incline, I don’t think I would have wrote this story.

However there are obviously other community members that see the same issue with this program as I do. How do we fix it and how do we start? Let find a solution please! Thank you!
