SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – During its meeting Tuesday, the South Lake Tahoe City Council voted to hire Bob Murray & Associates to find a replacement for City Manager Joe Irvin.

Irvin was hired by the City of Malibu to be its next city manager and resigned from the City of South Lake Tahoe, effective February 17, reporting to Malibu on March 2, 2026.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council promoted current Assistant City Manager Hilary Roverud to interim city manager until the recruitment and appointment of a permanent one is completed. In return, she receives a 10 percent increase above her
current salary of $19,408 per month.

Bob Murray & Associates will be paid $29,000 for the recruitment process that will include meeting with the city council to discuss what they are looking for in a candidate, then advertising, distribution of a brochure for the position, facilitating panel interviews, and completing reference and background checks. The company recently recruited for city managers for the City of Folsom, Reno, Nev., and Davis, Calif., and is currently recruiting for city managers for the cities of Pacifica, Sausalito, Santa Rosa, and Eugene, Ore.
