SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – This week marks the official launch of 50501 Tahoe, the Tahoe Basin group of the nationally formed 50501 – the name 50501 stands for 50 States, 50 Protests, 1 Movement.

Organizers said they formed 50501 Tahoe to inform and mobilize local communities within the Tahoe Basin. They want to share actions, host events, provide resources, and define ways for interested people to get involved locally while staying connected to the broader national movement.

“We believe democracy only works when people show up, stay engaged,
and hold power accountable,” said Amy Machin-Ward, co-lead for the group. “50501 Tahoe will stand up social media campaigns, protests, rallies, and marches that can create awareness and advocate for the crucial social and political issues facing our country, state, and all of the Tahoe Basin communities.”

Besides Amy Machin-Ward, a local organizer for past SLT protest events, she is joined by Beck Machin-Ward, founder of the Young Democrats Committee at LTCC, Youth Development Coordinator for the SLT Democrats Club, and social media creator.

Leadership consists of event organizers, coalition builders, and social media creation coordinators.

“We want this to be a team effort that makes a difference!” said organizers. “Coming soon – we plan to coordinate with local political clubs, community networks, and other community organizations to help bring the NO KINGS Alliance National Day of Mobilization to the Tahoe Basin on March 28.”
