LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After a very dry five-week period, OpenSnow is tracking a welcome series of cold storms that could deliver upwards of 3-5 feet of snow to ski areas in Tahoe and along the West Slope of the Sierra.
“The storm system that is lining up for next week is signaling the start of a pattern change that could bring a cold storm series with almost continuous precipitation through much of next week,” said Bryan Allegretto, OpenSnow California forecaster and lead forecaster for Ski California. “Although storms haven’t been ongoing this season, they’ve arrived during busy holiday periods and have delivered significant amounts in short periods of time. This inbound storm series seems similar.”
The cold storm series is anticipated to start by Monday and continue through at least next Thursday, the 19th, with potential snowfall of up to 1-2+ feet of snow in the Tahoe basin and 2-3+ feet at ski areas by Wednesday morning. An additional 1-2+ feet is possible through Thursday.
More storms are possible through the 24th of February, adding to the significant snowfall expected next week, as the Sierra continues its snowfall comeback after falling behind the seasonal averages during the prolonged dry spell.
