EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – An El Dorado County third-grade teacher is dead, and her husband has been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office (EDSO), on Tuesday, February 17, deputies were called to a home in the 1400 block of Big Oak Road in Placerville after receiving a report of a male subject brandishing a firearm. Upon arrival, deputies found Geoffrey Snyder, 57, at the residence, and his wife, Shelley Snyder, 56, deceased with a suspected gunshot wound.
Geoffrey Snyder was ultimately arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail. He is being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge.
Shelley Snyder was a third-grade teacher in the Buckeye Union School District. They sent out a message following her death that read, “This loss is profound and will be deeply felt by our entire Buckeye Elementary community and beyond. Mrs. Snyder was a valued member of our school family, and we know many students, staff and families will be affected by this news in different ways.”
There were numerous tributes left for the beloved teacher on the EDSO Facebook page.
The suspect was scheduled for his first court appearance on Feb. 19.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available.
