SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Chamber, in partnership with the City of South Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Small Business Development Center (SBDC), invites local entrepreneurs and business owners to attend the upcoming Level Up Workshop: Roadmap to Occupying New Commercial Space on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lisa Maloff University Center.
Designed for both Chamber members and non-members, this workshop is ideal for home-based businesses preparing to transition into retail or office space, businesses that have outgrown their current location, and entrepreneurs signing their first commercial lease. Moving into commercial space is an exciting milestone, but without proper preparation, it can become complex and costly. From zoning and permitting, to financing and build-out expenses, many business owners encounter unexpected requirements after committing to a lease. This workshop provides clarity before that commitment is made.
Attendees will gain insight into conducting due diligence before signing a lease, understanding the true costs of tenant improvements and required upgrades, and negotiating lease terms effectively. The Sierra Small Business Development Center will address financing options and business support resources, while the City of South Lake Tahoe will outline the permitting roadmap, including zoning, change-of-use requirements, TRPA coordination, parking standards, signage regulations, ADA compliance, fire and occupancy requirements, and realistic project timelines. The program will also highlight the City’s Concierge Program and pre-application meetings designed to help streamline the process.
The workshop concludes with a practical case study that walks participants through the journey from securing a space to opening the doors, offering a realistic look at common challenges and strategies for navigating them successfully. The Level Up Workshop reflects the Tahoe Chamber’s commitment to strengthening the South Shore business community by equipping entrepreneurs with the knowledge and tools to grow sustainably and confidently.
