“It’s always a pleasure to be part of the wonderful group effort to serve our community with such a quality meal,” said Andrea King from Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty.
Andrea was one of the five team members from Sierra Sotheby’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsor volunteer team who came to help at Bread & Broth’s (B&B) Monday Meal on February 17th.
In addition to Andrea, Sierra Sotheby’s AAD volunteer crew included Ellen Camacho, Angie Challenor, Joe King, and Haily Mitchell. This was an experienced group of AAD crew members who have been volunteering their time and effort several times a year since 2019. As volunteers, they keep returning because they are committed to helping others and find the experience to be really fun and rewarding.
As Andrea pointed out, a Bread & Broth Monday Meal is definitely a group effort.
It starts with B&B’s Food Coordination Team picking up donated food items from local stores and businesses every Monday and Friday morning and receiving $2,000 worth of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, and dairy products (milk, eggs, and butter) ordered by B&B for meal preparation and food giveaway bags every week.
The B&B volunteer cooks come in around noon and begin their meal preparations, and for the Monday Meal on 2/17, the menu they prepared was a delicious roasted chicken with mushroom gravy, roasted potatoes, broccoli with a cheese sauce and a lovely garden salad with a homemade dressing of herb spiced olive oil and vinegarette.
Then at 3 p.m., the B&B serving crew and the AAD volunteer crew arrive at Grace Hall to help with the meal’s setup which includes preparing the utensils, setting up the dessert/drink table, and arranging and packing food for the giveaway table.
At 4 p.m., Grace Hall’s doors are opened to anyone from the community to experience a nutritious and healthy meal and food ‘to go’ bags. For an hour and a half, the diners are encouraged to enjoy the meal and the camaraderie of their fellow dinner guests.
At 5:30 p.m. the doors to Grace Hall are closed and the AAD and B&B volunteers, along with the Monday Meal B&B Cleanup crew which arrives at 5:20, breakdown the dining hall, clean the tables and chairs, mops the floor, and puts the kitchen back in spotless order for the next meal/event happening in St. Theresa Grace Hall.
Bread & Broth is blessed with outstanding volunteers and the support of the community through donations and Adopt A Day sponsorships. The organization is very grateful to the ongoing support of Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty’s contribution to the success of the program through their donation of $350 for each of their AAD meal sponsorships and for the outstanding service provided by each of the team members who generously give of their time and wonderful kindness to help others in the community.
