1:15 p.m. Update: The City of SLT has opened a Charging Center due to a widespread power outage. It has been set up at the Recreation Center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. The center is available to those who need to charge medical devices, cell phones, and small electronic devices. The charging center will be open until 10 pm.

12:45 p.m. Update: Liberty now estimates power will be restored by 2 p.m. Some MV Energy customers are coming back on line at this time and restoral of power will be done in stages.

10:45 AM Update: The estimate of power restoration has been changed to 11:30 a.m.

10:30AM Update: Liberty says the power should be restored around 10:30 a.m.

9:30AM Update: Nearly 50,000 customers are still without power due to the outage in the Buckeye Substation in Douglas County. There is no estimated time of restoral. Both companies’ outages maps are now operating.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Liberty and NV Energy are reporting widespread power outages for South Lake Tahoe, Minden and Gardnerville areas. NV Energy says over 28,000 customers are out, and Liberty’s outage map is not working. They are trying to get that up and running. Liberty gets the transmission of electricity from NV Energy to the South Lake Tahoe transformer.

In the meantime, Douglas County has closed elementary schools and working on getting those on the bus back home. Middle and high school plans are being worked on.

Lake Tahoe Unified Schools are closed and kids are being sent home.
