The Lake Tahoe South Shore community is fortunate to have numerous service organizations whose members are dedicated to enhancing the lives of its residents. One such organization, the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS), works tirelessly to enhance and transform the lives of women and youth. This outstanding group of women meets weekly and is devoted to supporting fellow members and the broader community through a wide range of service projects and financial support.
Members of SITS provide educational scholarships for young girls and women, recognize young females who volunteer in the community, distribute back-to-school backpacks filled with school supplies, coordinate a summer reading program, and support educational initiatives throughout the year. These activities represent just a portion of the many service projects the organization undertakes.
Bread & Broth (B&B) is extremely grateful to be among the organizations supported by the SITS membership through its sponsorship of two Adopt A Day of Nourishment events annually. On Monday, March 2, SITS hosted the Monday Meal, donating $350 to help fund the full-course, hot meal and sending four members, Lisa Cali, Chelcee Thomas, Andrea Solis, and Kim Valverde, to assist the B&B volunteers at their sponsorship dinner. In addition, SITS members Wendy David (an original B&B founder), Carol Gerard, and Lydia Rogers, who are also B&B volunteers, participated in the evening’s meal service.
The SITS volunteers served dinner guests a meal favorite – supreme stuffed baked potatoes loaded with chili, sour cream, green onions, cheddar cheese, and bacon, served with a green salad and an assortment of delicious desserts. Volunteering on the serving line offers the rewarding opportunity to interact directly with the grateful dinner guests, providing a meaningful and heart-warming experience, allowing the Adopt A Day volunteers to witness firsthand the positive impact of their meal sponsorship.
“The Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra is always happy to sponsor a Monday Meal dinner for our community through Bread & Broth,” shared Lisa Cali. “Our volunteers receive so much enjoyment in being able to support our locals and to see first-hand how much this dinner means to those who come to partake in a meal. Guests are not only nourished with food but also with the camaraderie of sharing a communal meal with fellow community members. Bread & Broth not only nourishes their body but also their souls.”
The members of the SITS organization are service-minded women who give selflessly to others, having a significant and positive effect on the lives of women, youth and the community. To fund their many service projects, the SITS organization will be holding its popular FUNdraiser, the Mad Hatter Tea Party, on May 17 with tickets going on sale on April 1, along with a vacation raffle and online auction.
