SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A new community project called Tahoe Prom Closet is collecting gently used prom dresses and formalwear to give away for free to local high school students ahead of prom season.

Organized by residents, Holly Humlick and Natasha Chavez, the project aims to ensure every student has the opportunity to feel confident and celebrated on prom night—regardless of financial circumstances.

Community members are encouraged to donate prom dresses, formal gowns, dress Soutshoes, and accessories such as jewelry, clutches, and wraps. All styles and sizes are welcome.

South Tahoe High School’s prom will take place on May 30, and organizers plan to host a free “Prom Closet Shopping Day” for students approximately two weeks before prom.

Donations can be dropped off at Meyers Artisan Station (3170 Highway 50, Meyers, CA) or at a Midtown South Lake Tahoe drop-off location on Carson Avenue. For the exact Midtown address or to arrange a donation, community members can call or text Natasha at (619) 804-5988.

Organizers hope the project will turn once-worn dresses sitting in closets into unforgettable prom experiences for local teens.
