SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The unseasonably warm air mass continues to be positioned over the west this week, and is expected to peak on Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures climbing 15-25 degrees above late-March norms.
This past week saw several records fall, including the highest daily temperature for March. On March 18, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno recorded 76 degrees in South Lake Tahoe. The highest March temperature before that was on March 30, 2015,j when it was 71.
So far, there have been five consecutive days of record-breaking temperatures in South Lake Tahoe. The other record days besides the 18th, so far – March 19 – 72, March 20 – 70, March 21 – 71, and March 22 – 69.
Temperatures will remain well above seasonal averages throughout the coming week, with more daily records likely to be challenged.
There will be some increasing afternoon winds from Monday through Wednesday, which will result in some choppy lake conditions. There is a potential pattern shift from March 31 to April 2. Until then, dry and warm conditions are expected to persist.
