A South Lake Tahoe man was hit by a car on Saturday night, resulting in serious injuries and an arrest for felony hit and run.
Scott Murphy, 26, was walking along the eastbound side of Highway 50, east of Apache Avenue, talking to his girlfriend on the phone at about 9:45 p.m. on March 26 according to the California Highway Patrol. A BMW driven by Roberto Luna, 21, was also heading east and, for unknown reasons, allowed the right front side of his car to hit Murphy. Luna, of San Francisco, Calif., was driving an estimated 50 mph, ten miles above the posted speed limit.
Instead of stopping, Luna drove away.
CHP officer Warren Bithell arrived on the scene along with paramedics who transported Murphy to Barton Memorial Hospital. Bithell’s investigation led him to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at Stateline where deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office had located the BMW. Bithell was joined by other CHP officers, El Dorado County Sheriff deputies and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies at the casino where they located Luna and arrested him.
Luna was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of felony hit and run.
Murphy was transported by medical helicopter to Reno due to the major injuries he sustained in the accident. His condition is unknown at this time.
