It was a mighty fine evening this past Thursday, as history came alive at the Gold Hill Hotel in Nevada, near Virginia City. Famed Chautauquan actor Kim Harris kicked off the Gold Hill lecture and entertainment series, as she brought the notorious Madam Caroline “Cad” Thompson to life. Imagine Virginia City in its heyday of silver mining, saloons, brothels, and booze. Kim, as Cad, gave us an intimate look into the life of a businesswoman in the 1870s.
With a glint in her eye, the enchanting actress showed us that prostitution is fun…for the Madam! Kim has a beautiful personality, she is engaging and passionate about the history of this region. Her comedic delivery is spot-on, and the tongue-in-cheek jokes and double-entendres abound.
If you’ve never seen a historical re-enactment, you can enjoy many shows this summer, at numerous venues around Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley, and beyond. As the event coordinator at Dangberg Ranch in Minden, Nevada, Kim has lined up a very busy calendar of events, concerts, and speakers, including modern-day famous/infamous stars like Lucille Ball and Al Capone! She has her own repertoire of 22 characters, and she’s famous for her Calamity Jane and Lizzie Borden.
Catch a show and be transported to another era. Kim and her fellow thespians are truly talented professionals!
