STATELINE, Nev. – A familiar name in the Lake Tahoe dining scene is getting national recognition. Fox & Hound Smokehouse Grill & Bar has earned Second Place (Silver) at the National Barbecue & Grilling Association Awards of Excellence, held during the 2026 conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
The award-winning sauce, High Altitude Heat, competed against more than 600 entries from across the country, standing out for its bold balance of smoky chipotle and habanero heat.
For owner Matt Grime, the recognition is especially meaningful.
“We’ve been serving these sauces in our restaurant for years, so to see one recognized on a national stage is a big moment for us,” said Grime. “It’s something we’re proud to share with the Tahoe community that’s supported us all along.”
Fox & Hound has been part of the South Shore since 1991, known for its slow-smoked barbecue, breakfast, and relaxed atmosphere overlooking the Carson Valley. What started as housemade sauces for the restaurant has recently grown into a retail line, giving both locals and visitors a chance to take home a taste of Tahoe.
The full lineup includes:
- Lake Level Mild – sweet and smoky
- High Altitude Heat – chipotle and habanero
- Mountain-Style Vinegar – tangy, Carolina-inspired
