SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Many people in our community are carrying heavy loads these days. Whether it’s financial pressure, family strain, health concerns, or simply the weight of uncertainty, life can sometimes feel a little like facing Goliath—huge, intimidating, and impossible to move.

“I’ve been thinking a lot this week about those moments when life feels overwhelming,” said Pastor Greg of Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. “You know that feeling when you’re stuck, unsure what to do next.”

For Pastor Greg, the answer begins with one essential ingredient: hope.

“Hope is essential to life,” he explained. “It’s the most important factor in your life. You need it to survive and thrive, but people don’t raise their level of hope by wishing to be more hopeful.”

He points to a striking truth:

We can survive forty days without food, three days without water, and eight minutes without air—but not a single moment without hope.

Hope, he says, is what fuels the human spirit. It lifts the heart. It gives courage to take the next step. “When hope fades, dreams disappear,” he said. “But when hope is ignited, everything changes.”

This Sunday, Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church will launch a new multi‑week sermon series titled Ignite Your Spirit: Life‑Changing Ways to Build and Sustain Hope. The series begins with the story of David and Goliath—an ancient reminder that trusting God can give ordinary people extraordinary courage.

“We’re diving into that story and talking about how trusting God gives us the energy to step forward, even when the obstacles feel huge,” Pastor Greg said.

He knows many in the Tahoe Basin are feeling worn down. “If you’re feeling stuck, tired, or just needing a reminder that God is still writing your story—I’d love for you to join us,” he added. “Come as you are. Bring a friend. Let’s explore hope together.”

The service begins at 10 a.m. this Sunday at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church. All are welcome.
