SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – At approximately 1:39 p.m. Thursday a boulder came off the mountainside right into the path of a pick-up truck traveling westbound on Highway 50 over Echo Summit near Johnson Pass Road.

The driver hit the boulder and his vehicle had to be towed from the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol in Meyers.

There were no injuries in the incident. As Caltrans was clearing the lane and the vehicle hooked up to be moved there was one-way traffic over the summit. All was cleared in under an hour.

Highway 50 is now open and free of controls.
