LAKE TAHOE, Calif. –  The Sierra State Parks Foundation is proud to announce the grand kickoff of its brand-new monthly speaker series, “Tahoe Talks on the Water.” This inaugural event invites the public to experience history where it happened, combining expert storytelling with a scenic sunset cruise aboard the iconic paddleboat, the Tahoe Gal.

The series begins on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, marking the first of five unique educational voyages scheduled through September. Each event is designed to connect outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs with the Lake Tahoe Basin’s rich natural and cultural heritage in an immersive, elegant setting.

“We are thrilled to launch this new series, made possible by the Tahoe Gal, North Tahoe Chamber, and North Tahoe Community Alliance, as a way to bring Tahoe’s rich history and vital conservation efforts to life,” said Kiley Mac, community engagement manager for the Sierra State Parks Foundation. “By moving the speaker series onto the water, we’re offering a perspective of the lake that you simply can’t get from a traditional lecture hall!”

The kickoff presentation features Nancy Stromswold, archive manager at the Gatekeepers Museum, on Lake Tahoe’s early maritime history. From 1860 to 1930, Lake Tahoe served as a literal water highway for residents, tourists, and industry. Stromswold will guide guests through the era of steamers and the pioneers who shaped the lake’s early maritime identity.

Proceeds from the series benefit the Sierra State Parks Foundation, supporting the preservation and restoration of Lake Tahoe’s California State Parks.

Reservations are required as seating is strictly limited. Tickets are $60 per person; dinner menu with items ranging from $12 to $25, as well as a cash bar, will be available. It is highly recommended that guests arrive at 5:30 pm as the boat leaves sharply at 6 pm! The boat is predicted to return to the docks at 8:30 pm.
