A Reno, NV man was arrested Saturday for stalking a student at a Douglas High School track meet. A school official observed 59 year old Rodney Minton Skan watching participants at the school event, became suspicious and reported him to a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy who was at the meet.

The deputy began watching Skan and noticed he was watching and videotaping a specific student. As soon as Skan realized he was being watched, he attempted to leave the area.

Skan was contacted in the parking lot and deputies located enough evidence to arrest him. Skan was arrested on a misdemeanor stalking charge to which he pleaded guilty at a court appearance on Monday. His bail has been set at $5,000. According to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office Skan will be on house arrest should he make bail. He’ll also have to stay away from the female victim.

This is the second incident of this nature reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in the past two weeks, although the previous incident occurred in Carson City, the students are from Douglas High.

As a result of the investigation, numerous high school female athletes have been identified as possible victims going back several years. Authorities are trying to identify them which may result in more charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
