As South Lake Tahoe prepares to host Stages 1 & 2 of the AMGEN Tour of California Women’s Race on May 8-9, people are working throughout the community, preparing for all of the events surrounding the world class cycling event.

There is a VIP reception and team presentation at Riva Grill on Thursday, May 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Join the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and the organizers of the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race Empowered with SRAM for the special evening. The 14 teams invited to participate will be introduced by legendary cycling commentators Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett. The cost is $85 and includes a hosted Bar and Hors d’oeuvres. There will also be VIP access for both days of the event at Heavenly’s California Base Lodge. While viewing and enjoying all of the booths that will be set up is free, the VIP tickets gets you access to the hospitality tent from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. The special tickets also provides viewing of the start and finish for both days in the VIP area. On Friday the Ride 2 Recovery Honor Ride will both start and finish at Heavenly. They get on the road after the women at 11:30 a.m. and will bike the 19 mile course the women will enjoy during Stage 2.

On Friday night there will be private screening of the movie “Personal Golf” at Lake Tahoe Community College. Described by Reed Albergotti of the Wall Street Journal as ‘Miracle meets Moneyball,’ the movie gives a behind-the-scenes experience of four underdog women cyclists who become America’s hope for a medal at the London Olympics after the men’s team was banned during the Lance Armstrong drug scandal.
