SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) today honored their fallen brother, Engineer Neil Schnaible, with help from area fire departments, law enforcement, the fire family, friends, neighbors and the public.

A procession started at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where Schnaible passed away at 9 a.m. on May 8, 2026, and followed a set course through Carson City, the Carson Valley, Alpine County and into the Lake Tahoe Basin through Meyers and South Lake Tahoe. Multiple agencies were part of the procession as the public watched from the sides of the roadway throughout the journey.

As the procession came into Christmas Valley, the ambulance carrying Schnaible entered the grounds of LVFPD Station 7 under flags for a brief ceremony. A memorial will be held at a later date.

Schnaible was a firefighter-paramedic, recently promoted to the rank of engineer. His captain in the department, Luke Anderson, drove the ambulance carrying him to his final home.

He was honored as a husband, father, a dedicated member of the close-knit fire family, and a member of the community he loved and protected.

Schnaible died on May 4 after suffering a heart attack on the job on April 29.
