Kudos and acknowledgements are starting to line up for Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini as he wraps up more than 45 years of serving the public of Nevada.
Nevada Governor Sandoval has proclaimed Wednesday, May 16, 2018 to be Sheriff Ron Pierini Day.
Pierini began his law enforcement career in Carson City in 1973 and was employed by the Nevada State Prison for one year. He began working for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1976 and rose through the ranks, and was later appointed to replace Sheriff Jerry Maple in 1997. He was elected to that position in 1998, and has served as Sheriff since that time.
Through his years of law enforcement service he has served the people of Nevada and in 2002, he was appointed to the Nevada POST Commission. In July 2006 he was appointed as Chairman of the Commission, where he has served for twelve years.
It was during Pierini’s last POST Commission meeting that Mike Sherlock, Executive Director of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) presented the Sheriff with the governor’s proclamation.
“Sheriff Pierini has been a great supporter of POST and his involvement and advice has been unwavering,” said Sherlock, “His ability to put decisions and issues into a historical perspective will be sorely missed. I want to thank him in supporting our mission and moving Nevada law enforcement forward each year.”
Sandoval noted that through Pierini’s unwavering commitment to public safety and leadership, he helped shape the training and standards of Nevada law enforcement officers today and into the future.
The Governor also commended Sheriff Pierini on his outstanding tenure and dedication and joins his family, friends and colleagues in extending sincere appreciation to him for his years of service, with best wishes for a happy and fulfilling future retirement as Sheriff in Douglas County in January 2019.
