SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – On July 4th, 2026, the United States will mark its 250th anniversary, and the Lake Tahoe Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) would like to commemorate this moment in our nation’s history to benefit the youth of our area.

The Lake Tahoe Chapter, DAR, and partners are bringing books that focus on the American Revolution to the youth in the community through our Revolutionary Reading Project.

We’d like to thank and recognize the generosity of Edgewood Tahoe, the Parasol Foundation Community Fund, Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra, and the South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club for joining in these efforts.

Working together enabled us to purchase 728 books that focus on the American Revolution. Books are being distributed to our LTUSD, DCSD, and WCSD schools through their libraries. In addition, titles are also being provided to the Zephyr Cove Library – Douglas County Public Library and the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library – El Dorado County Library.

DAR chapters throughout our nation are a part of America 250, and through our work, we strive to honor Revolutionary War Patriots, engage youth through contests and educational opportunities, and support efforts to better tell the story of underrepresented and diverse Patriots who helped to win the American War of Independence.

We encourage everyone to take advantage of the wealth of information on the DAR national website. It is not just for our members, but for our nation. There is so much free and meaningful material at https://www.dar.org. Here, you can learn about our nation, the battles held, virtually visit museums, learn how to conduct your own genealogy, look for an ancestor who may be a patriot, and so much more. This is a website that you will find fascinating. It is an excellent resource for students, parents, and our community.  Take time to explore all the site has to offer, and if you’d like to learn more about our chapter, contact our Chapter Regent, Jini Becktell, at jinibecktell@gmail.com and visit our website at https://laketahoe.californiadar.org.

We will see you at the City of South Lake Tahoe’s 4th of July Parade as we get ready for our nation’s 250th birthday in 2026!

Happy birthday, America!
