SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Lake Tahoe area has seen highs into the 80s while the valleys on either side of the Basin have seen 100 on their thermometers. Heat will persist through midweek, with highs in the upper 90s across much of western Nevada and mid- to upper 80s in the Sierra valleys. A pattern change is possible from Thursday to Friday, which may bring 5-10 degrees of cooling, along with higher chances of thunderstorms and increased winds, increasing fire concerns late next week. After several days of hot, dry conditions, vegetation will be more susceptible to burning, raising the overall fire threat should the thunderstorms materialize.
