For almost every Bread & Broth Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsor, the early evening meal position most enjoyed by the AAD sponsor crew members is volunteering on the dinner’s serving line welcoming the dinner guests and giving out heaping servings of the evening’s meal.
According to Darlene Winkelman, Harrah’s casino operation manager, “the HEROs love seeing the smiling faces go through the line and we appreciate the opportunity to service the community.” Darlene has been coordinating the Caesars Republic/Harrah’s HEROs for the past 10 years and she and all of the HEROs crew members who have come to volunteer over the years are a tremendous help and according to Darlene, “the HERO Team members are filled with joy during and after the meal event.”
For the Monday Meal on June 9, the HEROs’ AAD volunteer crew also included Rebecca Andras, casino dealer; Kathryn Kniceley, guest relation and risk specialist; Ximena McWilliams, guest relations and risk manager; and Sherry Newberger, convention operations manager. The crew represented the employee’s Caesars Republic/Harrah’s HEROs organization which strives to perform service projects that are beneficial to the casino’s local community.
In addition to being on the serving line from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., the HEROs helped the Bread & Broth (B&B) volunteers with bagging the fresh fruit and vegetables, setting up the food giveaway and dessert/drink tables, and ending their volunteer stint by helping with the dinner’s takedown/cleanup.
Kudos to Caesars Republic/Harrah’s HEROs for their ongoing sponsorship of two to three AADs annually and embracing their commitment to serve others by providing funds and their personal time to assist B&B in serving a hot, full-course, nutritious meal to the members of our community that are food-insecure.
For those interested in sponsoring a B&B Adopt A Day of Nourishment, there are a few sponsorship meal openings in July. Contact Carol Gerard at 310-256-1019.
