UPDATE: The California Highway Patrol says an 85-year-old man from Lincoln, Calif., was the person who died in the crash. His name has not yet been released. The preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a Lincoln Navigator, which was being driven by a 38-year-old woman from California. She did not sustain any injuries.
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Expect delays on US50 at Rock Crusher Curve near Twin Bridges, as there was a fatal head-on collision between what looks like a Lincoln Navigator and a motorcycle. The collision occurred just before 11:19 a.m. Monday.
CHP and other first responders are at the scene. Traffic was moving westbound, with eastbound stopped. According to the Caltrans map, one-way traffic is in effect with no estimated time of opening. Expect delays, but traffic appears to be moving.
CHP reports the crash occured when a white 2009 BMW F650GS motorcycle was traveling eastbound on US-50 near Slippery Ford Road, east of Twin Bridges. A white 2022 Lincoln Navigator was traveling westbound on US-50. The motorcycle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Lincoln. Although life-saving measures were attempted, the motorcycle rider succumbed to his injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available. At this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor.
